How did you end up short circuiting it with 12 volts? Power supply only provides 5 volts. Surprising to me.
You better be looking for a new drive already!

Trouble shoot a sasmsung series3 notebook that had a short in the power port. Need possible area to check no power when switch is press to on.

Sounds like the power supply circuitry has failed...... mains is stepped down to 12V for the battery... but the circuit includes Choke (inductor) and smoothing capacitors. I suggest you remove the hard disk and mount it in a caddy... so you can recover your data using the hard disk as an external drive.

Hi Jorge
Internally a standard 3.5" Hard Drive uses two voltages
about .7A on the 5v Line
and .55A on the 12v line.
So an External AC Plug Pack supplying 12v @ 1.5 to 2Amp should be adequate.
Be careful to match the polarity as marked on the back of your drive and use the correct thickness of the centre pin. There are 2-3 different sizes of this connector available at electronics component suppliers in case you make your own supply up.
Good Luck

I lost my power adapter for my simple tech 1tb 96300-41001-172, what is the voltage, amp rating as well as what pole is the +?thanks.

Open it up and look inside. Some enclosures use screws others use plastic clips which may require a tool thinner than a credit card to release the clips.
The Internal Drive...Is it a 2.5" drive that runs on 5 volt or a 3.5" drive that uses combined 12 volt & 5 Volt power supply.
These drives don't use much current. 1 to 2 Amp
The adapter may have had a single voltage output for 2.5" drives or a dual voltage supply for the 3.5" Probably 12v or 5v
Anyhow, there are lots of hard drive empty enclosures that can be bought... as hard drives internally use a standard connection for data & power. Just swap the internal HD over to a new enclosure.

Hope this Helps

Won't power up

Check for 12v constant and 12v remote. and be sure that u have a proper ground.
Check your speaker wiring for shorts (+ & - wires touching)
check that for shorts between your 12v constant and Ground at amplifier.
If these are fine it may be an internal problem.

Iomega external hard drive power is not coming on.

Samething happen to my Iomega screenplay media drive.
My problem was a AC/DC power adaptor that was in short-circuit.I bought one off EBAY and all good again.
Search for 12v dc 2.0 amp power adaptor.Has to be 2.0 amp ,as anything less ,will not work and most available are only 300 ma.

Power comes from the power supply. Check yellow and black and red and black. You need both 5v and 12v. Are you sure you have the jumper set correctly for the application? Master or single - master with slave present or some computers require CS (cable select)

New Power Cord Stopped Working

DO NOT use the HP power adapter that is 19V / 3.95A. That is too much power for the Scanjet, which is expecting 12V DC (and a much lower amperage). It's possible that hooking up this power adapter may further damage the electronics inside the scanner. If the second adapter has stopped working then it is possible that the internal circuit board has damage already and another adapter may not work. If you have access to a multimeter / voltmeter you could check for the 12V coming from the adapter. If you're getting the 12V, then the internal circuit board to the Scanjet is probably defective.
