91 vw jetta 1.6l diesel belts

Im trying to put all new belts on my car. im having trouble getting the water pump to loosen up so i can get the belt off. what bolts do i need to loosen to get the belt off or do you know where i can find a diagram?

These engines are identified as an interference engine and on no account must the crank shaft and cam shaft be moved with the timing belt removed. You no not need to remove the water pump. You need to remove the water pump pulley only (not the water pump). I trust this helps.

I dont think that you are installing the proper pump, you should really try using a new or remands water pump for a diesel, as the bolt patterns maybe different.

Unable to locate the water pump on the 1998 volkswagen beetle need to remove the water pump but cannot locate it,

  • Use a screwdriver to unscrew the clamp that connects the negative battery cable to the battery post. Remove the cable. Jack up the car using an automotive jack.

    Set a large container underneath the radiator at the drain hole to catch the discharged coolant. Open the cap on top of the radiator and unplug the drain plug underneath the radiator.

  • 3

    Remove the components that lead to the water pump using an adjustable wrench. In order, these include the upper and lower engine covers, the accessory drive belt and its tensioner and the upper and center timing belt covers.

  • 4

    Free up the timing belt by turning the engine so that the number one cylinder is at the TDC mark. Loosen the timing belt tensioner enough to ease the belt from the sprocket. Remove the timing belt mounting bolts.

  • 5

    Unbolt the water pump retaining bolts and then the water pump. Remove the o-ring and discard it. Clean the mounting surface.

  • Put on the New Pump you get to it from the front....it is internal.....

    I have a 84 351 windsor that runs way to hot i put

    seems to me that you could have an air lock, try loosening the rad cap slightly and run car until fans kicks in, squeeze upper rad hose a few times to push any air out. Careful with hot hoses. see if this helps.

    Replacing of the cam belt / timing belt, rollers and tensioners on VW Golf iv is now due at 180 000km service. Is it a recommendation to replace the water pump simultaneous with the cam belt?

    Yes. Most defiantly replace the water pump. If the pump bearing should collapse it will break the new timing belt and do a lot of damage to the valves and cylinder head.

    it is located under the timing cover, it is driven by the timing belt, u must replace the timing belt and the water pump as one repair.

    had same problem with my 2.0 as the water pump will be off anyway might as well do it as far as doing timing belt if you do this yourself good luck we payed over 800 to have belt and water pump replaced that was at a friend garage and a few discounts

    tricky without the proper tool ,put a screwdriver across two allen keys while you undo the other and visa versa,dont slide it forward unless you are replacing the pump it will come undone you would find it easy with the proper vw water pump triangle
