How is your internet connection? I ran that same problem last year, so I upgraded to a faster internet and didnt ran into that problem again. You might want to check how much memory you are using, once you are reaching the limits it tends to be slower in operating, (running programs, internet, turning on etc...)

Computer runs slow . I have a dell 2350 pentium. 256mb ram running windows xp. C drive has 11.7 gb used and 16.8 free.the machine doesnt respond as quickly as it once did

Computers slow down, even after a short time, there is a little guide that will help to speed up, and keep it safe and secure
http://www.fixya.com/support/r5272277-secure_clean_computers
I would also advise a little more memory, but i have ran a few pc's with 256mb ram and they where still usable.
Try ebay for older types of memory

My toshiba laptop computer has very short battery life when it is not plugged in. It will also shut off quite frequently at times and will take a while to restart (it will turn on but it takes a few tries...

How old is the battery? Most laptops and notebooks only have a 3 year battery life, and if you have run it down too far, or never ran it down at all, the life can be even shorter than that. With nicad they say it is best to use them until they stop working. But lithium batteries are best kept topped up I hear. If the batter is over 2 years old, time to replace I think.

A lot of the times this would be a Problem with the Pc.. Take note Turn your pc off dont even let it charge.. let it sit over night and see if it runs faster.. when you turn in back on... I have seen many of these pc's Fail bc of the Fans in them I have one sitting on my desk that does the same thing... I at first that it was what i wasthe program running so I installed xp on it... from there i have used several other software they all would work for a while then the whole thing would just lock up So slow... then i noticed that when it was cool after one or two nights i would turn in on and it would fine but after a few days of easy use.. it would slow right back down... One of your fans might be going bad... this is a known problem

2 ghz processor running at 220 mhz

Hi,

Have you tried right clicking on the desktop (opening Display Properties), clicking on Screen Saver tab, Clicking the Power button, and setting the power schemes to Home/Office Desk? If its set on laptop it will reduce the processor speed when running on battery. I have noticed that even with it plugged in that some times it will run at half processor speed. Try that out.

Have a great day,
Armymason

Computer v slow. don't know which program to trust to clean up

www.ccleaner.com free, and easy to use. scan for issues, then use registry cleaner (the first two options). if pc is still slow, you may have some issues that need to be dealt with by someone moore knowledgable about the registry entries. (when using the cleaner, you need not backup anything as they are missing or broken files and fragments that are clogging the registry and can be safely removed).
for further help, you may need to run a program such as hijack this. save the logfile to the desktop, and copy paste it into a forum where someone can read and advise you on what, if any, actions to take.
one such group i am a member of is

http://groups.msn.com/ComputerHelpClub

some else here may also be able advise you, but i am not sure of that.

HP PC bogged down despite cleaning cache and removing old programs

Try adaware or spybot. Your PC could also be overheating. Open the case and blow out any dust. I also would check your add/remove programs and delete an software you don't use. Hit ctrl alt del when your PC slows down and look at the running processes for what might be slowing your system down.
