Unplug. Remove 2 screws on both back corners of top acess panel. Slide panel foreward and lift up. It will flip back out of the way. Unplug door switch harness. Pull up on and remove 2 retainer clips that attach backing plate to body. Pull up from back and remove housing.

SOURCE: Lid switch replacement

Some washing machines have the bolts that hold the top down situated behind the front panel but you have to remove the panel to gain access.
There may be 3-4 screws at the bottom of the front panel, remove the screws and the panel should come out.
Hope this has helped

My roper washing machine will not empy out or spin. It agitates alright but stops when it comes to emptying the water and going into the spin cycle.

If the motor isn't running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.
Replace the lid switch with this part.

I have a roper whirlpool washer that only runs the water and then it stops, how can I repair this?

This is a common problem, your lid switch is to blame, the filling of the machine is only dependent on the timer knob being pulled out at cycle start. Once the machine fills and the level actuates the level switch to de-energize the fill valve, nothing else is going to happen until the timer motor powers up AND this is done by closing the lid to operate the lid switch, however if this switch is bad, the rest of the electrical circuit gets no power, and that is why your machine doesn't advance any further in it's cycle. Lid switch is mounted under top of machine and requires the cabinet to be properly removed for access.

Hope this helps

Washing machine works up to the spin cycle, it does not spin it does however empty the water. this is a roper brand top load machine about 5 yrs old.

Lid switch. A safety mechanism used to make sure lid is closed in spin cycle. You can bypass this switch by placing the wires that go to switch together. DO NOT do this if you have children or do not want to remove that safety feature some require because they dont know better than to open a washer in spin cycle. :)

My roper washer will wash clothes but will not spin at rinse time

Check your lid switch.

If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain, this is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If the switch is not activated by a lid strike, it will activated by a hinge actuator located next to either the left or right lid hinge. You will need to remove the operator console in order to access this type of switch. NOTE: On this type of lid switch the lig hinge has a small rod that is used as an acutator to toggle the switch. In many cases, you can adjust the rod by bending it if the switch is not making contact.

If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

If the model you have this listed under is correct, the part number for your lid switch is 8318084. It can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all of them for the best price.

This is a very simple repair, that usually costs about $15 to $25 to repair yourself. If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you. NOTE: Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool, so these instructions will apply to your washer.

Washer has power but stop in mid wash cycle

I would recommend checking your lid switch.

If not activated by a lid strike, other models have the lid switch located under the washer casing next to one of the lid hinges. It is activated by a rod contacting an actuator. The mounting scews for this type are located under the operator console.

If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to access the washer interior and replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com, searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, or repairclinic.com. The average cost of a replacement is $25 to $35.

If you have questions, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool, so the instructions, I provided will work for your washer as well.

Roper Washer Wont Spin Out

Probably a bad lid switch. Open the control panel. Disconnect the lid switch wire connector on top of the cabinet under the control panel. Make a small insulated jumper wire and insert it into the wire that is still connected to the control panel. Set the timer to spin. If it spins replace the lid switch in the cabinet. If not, replace the timer.
