Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

The oven has no power and the hob will not ignite either. The fault caused all the other appliances to go off and the trip switch went down.

There could be a circuit fuse blown or a circuit breaker tripped. Either way you probably need an electrician.

Oven not producing any heat

just the oven? then more than likely the element. if the stove eyes are not working as well, then your looking more at a sensor, thermostat, fuse, breaker, etc. almost always an element though

Hob is tripping fuse box

If the hob is tripping the RCB or MCB on the consumer unit, there is a fault, usually in the elements or halogon heaters, you will need a multimeter to define but please ISOLATE FROM MAINS POWER BEFORE OPENING ANY PANEL
Some electrical knowledge would be helpful, check each element seperatly, you may have to carefuly disconect each heater on the hob, unless you know which blows the mcb, check all connectings to see thay are secure, work round the hab reostates, make sure there is no shorts to ground from elements, with temp control down at zero. Check wiring into mains as a loose connection will cause heat and mcb to trip.
If it is wired into the same outlet as an oven disconnect oven in case the other appliance is causing the problem. it is realy a question of eliminating causes one at a time, working round the affending appliance to define what is the cause.
Hope this is helpful

Went to switch oven on fan works when you turn the temp knob it trips the trip switch every time help

HI, Sounds like your from the UK
If you are referring to a trip switch as being equivalent to an American circuit breaker. (Electrical safety device designed to shut down power to an electrical appliance). Then we are on the same page.
Do the following diagnostic procedure:
1 SHUT DOWN THE POWER SUPPLY TO THE OVEN. I.E. THE TRIP SWITCH/CIRCUIT BREAKER.
2 Open the oven door and look very carefully with a flashlight at the heating element. Look at the the entire element. If it blew (similar to when a light bulb blows) you will
find white powder around the hole in it or it will be completely broken, or have bubbles in it. Some indication like that. If so it has failed and must be replaced. It is probably tripping the switch because it is shorting out somewhere. There is also the possibility that the internal wiring connectors to where the element is mounted into the oven walls is broken off and short circuiting against the oven chassis (walls). That being the case, it may be just a wiring repair in which you install new appropriate electrical contacts and re-connect the element.
Hope this helps,
Happy New Year,
Mark

Electrical output requirement for a buit-in oven and cooktop

Providing the existing switch outlet iscontrolled by a 30amp circuit fuse or trip, then there is no problem connecting the 2 appliances to the same switch.
If on the other hand, it is controlled by a 13 amp breaker, then you cannot connect both appliances to this, you would have to use 2 seperate sockets.
Hope this clarifys your question.

Complete power loss to Hotpoint electric oven

You need to ascertain that the oven is actually getting power. To do this, you are going to have to remove it from the housing and remove the terminal cover where the the cable comes in, and check for power there.
You may find that the terminal block has charred due to a bad connection and the wire has burnt away
If this o/k, and you are getting voltage there, then the problem is obviously within the oven itself, could be a timer fault.
If you have no voltage at terminal block, then the problem is between the terminal block and the main switch.
Hope this helps with your problem.

Brand new bosch pke691e20e ceramic hob trips 50amp mcb

You have a short to ground somewhere.

Was there a new cord installed on it or did the cord come already installed?

It could have been wired wrong causing a short to ground. there could be another wire touching the cabinet, a wire pinched by the cabinet.

You may have to trace down every wire with a continuity meter to find it, but its probably fairly obviose.

I'd start at the cord.

First try this, unplug the cord, turn the breaker back on just to make sure the problem is indeed in the unit not the receptacle or panel box.

If the breaker stays on, you know its in the unit.
