I havce installed the digital converter box and everything seems to be okey. I get the menu page, and do a channel scan, which brings up no channels. With the converter turned off, I get a cable signal...

Hello,

1. If you are using the composite video output, double check that your antenna is connected to the converter's antenna input and not the output.

2. If you are in a remote area that gets signals through translators, there might not be any digital signals to receive.

Is the antenna connected to the input of the converter box? There should be a screw on connector on the back, the antenna connects there.

If you have the antenna connected properly, have set the conveter to scan for channels, and you were able to watch TV with the rabbit ears before you got the box, the box may be defective....!!

Thank you!!!

PLease post back for further assistance..

I have a RCA D52W20 rear projection HDTV. This TV was purchased in2005. I cancelled my cable and I just hooked up a digital antenna but the TV isn't finding any channels. What do I need to do? I was...

HDTV indicates the number of lines that are shown by the TV. (HD means that at least 720 lines can be displayed in a given picture.) To receive OTA signals, you need an ATSC tuner (digital) of sufficient power (with a clear path to the transmitter) these days. The RCA D52W20 was released in 2002 and only has an NTSC (analog tuner). You will need a digital-to-analog converter to receive OTA TV (unless any low power analog stations remain in your area).

Please note that the basic digital-to-analog converters that were available with the government coupon back in 2009 were SD (480i lines of pixels used) units. HD d-t-a converters exist but are more expensive.

I hope this helps.

(the phrase "digital antenna" is meaningless; check with tvfool.com or antennaweb.org for the direction of local transmitters. TVfool.com will give more information on the type of antenna (indoor, outdoor, amplifier) that you will need to receive channels in your area. Antennaweb assumes an external antenna but is very conservative in the stations that it will indicate that you can receive. Antennas are given a color rating based on how far away the transmitter can be to get a watchable signal. Since digital signals are either enough for the tuner to interpret or you get a "no signal" message, you often need a stronger signal than was needed to receive a watchable analog channel.)

I BOUGHT A CONVERTER ANT2000 Smart indoor antenna were do I set my antenna we can't get it to work right we can't get much antenna strenght

One thing you could try is to get an amplifier for your antenna. There available at Radio Shack and other electronic stores. The amplifier plugs into an electrical outlet. The antenna coxial connector plugs into the input of the amplifier then you take another coax wire and run it from the converter to the output of the amplifier. Then try pointing it around to see what you get. Your antenna should be approved for digital TV use as well.

I've heard that digital tv is a little more precise to get than the analog. One source you can use to find out what direction the tv transmitters in your area are pointing at is:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/audio/tvq.html

Type in the call letters of the station to see where the transmitters are located. This is very detailed information on this page.

Smart antenna is a device that connects to the antenna, and send information on the channel received, adjusting itself for the best reception of that channel.

The instructions for our DTA800 digital to analog converter box for over the air waves for TV signals say since the signal is too weak that we need a SMART ANTENNA. What is that and what do you...

Hey boykinpierce,

The phrase "Smart Antenna" is often used to describe a multi-directional antenna or antenna array. These types of antennas are able to detect and automatically adjust to any changes in the TV signal strength you receive, and can generally be obtained through most major retailers. They primarily are used in areas where digital signals are weaker or somewhat inconsistent, and will attempt to optimize the signals they do receive before sending them to a TV or digital converter box.

Please keep in mind that while some DTV digital-to-analog converter boxes may have built-in Smart Antennas, this particular model (RCA DTA800) does not appear to have this feature.

If you're still not quite sure what to look for, please remember that you can always speak with a home theatre sales agent at your local Best Buy™ store for more information.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
