Question about HP Photosmart C3180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Printed perfectly until new ink cartridges were put in. Now everything is purple.

HP Photosmart C3100 series. Ser # MY72SD31GY04KV
Belongs to my sister who has no internet access. Printer is only 2 years old and has no problems in the past. Could the problem simply be a bad ink cartridge??

Could be.
Are they factory cartridges? Or aftermarket refills?

Sorry, didn't see the entire problem about it printing purple (the subject line truncates after so far).

Clean the print heads (alcohol wipes are best).

Also clean the print cartridges, replace and try again.

The purple is blending of colors, so it's not getting a clear shot of ink. A blocked print head can do that.

Also run the alignment page, and look at the results. If it continues to print off color, I would contact the people you got the ink from to see what their replacement policy is.

My hp photosmart 5514 won't print. I put in new ink-black and color- and it goes through the motions, but the page is empty

I just had this exact problem on my HP 5514. Black won't print after running out of black ink. New cartridge no good.
I tried everything-no good. I suspected the pinholes in the printhead were clogged with dried ink because I didn't change cartridge in time.
The fix that worked perfectly was when I hacksaw top off old black cartridge & removed all foam wicks so now I had a funnel(can see clear thru). I installed the cartridge & filled it with alcohol, printed page & did head clean; then printed few more pages. Problem cleared almost immediately. I then soaked up extra alcohol inside cartridge with paper towel. Removed modified cartridge & installed good one. I guess this could be done for colors as well. I don't know if this is a proper procedure, but it sure worked well for me.

you need to make sure all your ink cartridges are full, if they are, I would take them out and put them back in and rerun alignment

HP Photosmart C4480 won't print

I had almost the same exact problem. Left the printer unused for a month or so, came back, no black ink being printed, even though the level was still sufficient.
What I did, was boiled a small pot of water, and held the black ink cartridge over the steam, about 3-4 inches above the boiling water, for 2 increments of about a minute. Try not to burn your hand or cook the cartridge lol. I wiped the cartridge head with a piece of paper periodically until I noticed a good bit of dark ink on the paper, then gently wiped the condensation off of the cartridge with a paper towel so as not to put a wet cartridge back in my printer. Put it back in the printer and voila!
Works great so far, although I can't vouch for the long term effects of this solution. I did look at the cartridge a bit later to make sure it wasn't leaking, and it wasn't. You have to steam it the right amount of time. I would guess that the printer cartridge head will inevitably dry out again with limited use. I'm hoping that it will keep working though haha. Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.

HP photosmart c7280 printing photos with purple hue

Does the c7280 use seperate Magenta and PhotoMagenta cartridges? If so make certain the right cartridge is in the correct slot.

HP printer not printing true color all of a sudden.

Altho the cartridge is new, you may have used all of the ink of one color. Pictures take an enormous amount of ink to print and all three primary colors are used to create the hues and colors indicated on the picture. Try a new color cartridge and see if that works.

I just got off the HP help line.  After changing my black ink cartridge a test page was printing each time I turned the machine on.  This is very costly, in both time and ink as the cartridges themselves for this machine hold very little ink.  I tried to learn from HP tech how to turn off the test-print while keeping my color cartridge empty.  It turns out that you cant do it.  HP requires you to keep buying and using cartridges whether you need them or not.If you buy the color ink it will use it up in its testings.  And if you dont buy the color cartridge it will use up your black ink by printing the test each time you turn on the printer.  The printer was inexpensive sure, but I'm paying for it in wasted ink.
