Question about Sony KP-53S35 53" Rear Projection Television
The red light on standby blinks, but when i hit the power button in clicks like it wants to come on but it does'nt do anything ,and after 30 seconds it starts to smell like something is burning. It is a 1998
Yeppers . theres a definate short inside the unit so unplug the unit and DO NOT ATTEMT TO PLUG IT IN or start it up again as you could cause more problems . This problem sounds like the hi voltage transformer is bad and would cost approx. 400 or so to repair. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is pretty common. Now just maybe thgers a short in the power supply and thats not the problem as i cant really tell as theres a lot of things that can cause this Symptom. Now you will have to decide if you wanna invest in a 8 year old set? If it looked good before it went out then i would say its probably worth the investment but the set is comming to the end of its life expectancy but thats dosent mean that its junk. Remember now if your not a tech you should not open the set as theirs very hi voltage inside these things even when they are unplugged . Good luck
