The word filter keeps flashing on the thermostat. Why?

Filter change indicator - will flash after 400 hours of system use as a reminder to check or change your filter. Press and hold the Filter button for 3 seconds after changing the filter to reset the filter timer. (Pressing the Filter button for less than 3 seconds will cause the Filter change indicator icon to appear. The filter timer will not be affected unless the button is held for more than 3 seconds.) Note: Clearing the Filter counter will also clear the Energy counter.

Low air flow from a/c vents

In the summertime when its hot out, a/c air flow from the vents can start to slow down. When this happens there is a simple thing that all owners can do. Most vehicles today have a cabin air filter inside the vehicle. Most of these filters are easy to get to and change. Then there are some that take a bit more work. A cabin air filter is like a engine filter and works the same way. The cabin air filter catches outside air and debris that gets into the vehicle before it can get to the a/c evaporator. When these filters get dirty they restrict the airflow from the vents. When your airflow is not as good as it used to be, remove the cabin air filter and test the flow again with the filter out. If it changes and blows better, that means the cabin air filter needs to be changed

The best a/c filters to use

The absolulte and only filter any tech would be the cheapest ones avalaible in packs of four or more for less than a dollar each.
These filters give your system the best air flow and protect you system well. The purpose of air filters is to protect the equipment.
If someone in your house has breathing problems or dust is a problem; Spray the filters with a dusting spray which will give it that chemical magnetic power.
All filters should be changed monthly as they become breading ground for dust mites and mold spores. Using cheap filters, changing them monthly is the key.
Having plenty on hand, as they are cheap, makes this the only way to go,for making this an easy task.
A good monthly reminder is when you recieve your electric bill change the filters.
Your a/c system will love you for it!

The filter light keeps blinking on our thermostat but I don't know what filter needs to be changed.

It usually helps when you put the model numbers of the thermostat or furnace. Some need to be reset, some are simply a count down clock and its a reminder to change them.

How do i change the filter as the thermostat inducates it needs to be changed, where do i get he filter?

The thermostat is just indicating that your furnace filter needs to be replaced. There is not a filter on the thermostat. Go to your furnace, there should be a door that is concealing the filter or there will be a slot on the side that has the furnace filter in it. Pull it out and the size will be written on it clearly. YOu can get a filter at any hardware store or home improvement store.

Air Filter changing - easey and often

Examine the air filter at the beginning of each cooling and heating season and at the beginning of each day light savings time change. Write the date on the sides of new filters so you know when you changed them last.

A filter you can read a stop sign through is not a filter just a bigger trash collector. It wont stop particles that cause hay fever and irritate asthma. A filter that will help these items is one that you cannot see through except for light.

Keep a new filter on hand so you can compare the differences in color of the media. Some particles are so light colored they can only be seen by contrast.

A filter grille can usually be installed in under an hour (if the hole is correct size). Not only does it make changing a snap but encourages more frequent check ups. And this eliminates the indoor unit door not being put back in place correctly.

While changing look over the old filter for signs of moisture or special or different colors of particles so as to tell you about how good or poor the filter is doing. Wipe down the grille or door while open.

A washable filter is okay but you keep some of the dirt every time you put it back in place. Throwaway filters and electronic air cleaners are an excellent combination.

Hi -

Hello - Some air conditioner filters are removed by sliding out from the right-hand side. Others, you need to push the vent handle to the Vent Closed position and open the front panel. Grasp the filter by center and pull up and out the filter can be wash using liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Rinse filter thoroughly. Gently shake excess water from the filter. Be sure filter is thoroughly dry before replacing. Keep in mind that instead of washing you may vacuum the filter clean as well.

We have a rth2310b thermostat and it was saying filter on the screen and we changed the filter but it still has that filter word on the sceen. Does this word stay there???

Press and hold the "Filter" button on the thermostat for 3 or 4 seconds. That should turn off the filter indicator. After another 500 hours of operation, the "Filter" indicator will display again reminding you to change the filter. You see, it doesn't actually sense when you change the filter, it is simply an automatic reminder for you to do so. Hope this helps!
