Janome mini sewing machine not picking up thread

I have a Janome mini sewing machine which I have only used twice. The machine seems to be working fine except that the bobbin thread does not pick up. I have rethreaded it and changed the needle as well as having the bobbin and casing out to check for dust. I believe that it must be the timing out but cant find how to adjust it myself. I got in touch with Janome who told me to take it to a dealer for repair but as the machine is not very expensive I suspect that the repair would cost more than the machine. I just wondered if I could have a got adjusting it myself.

I too have the same problem. Only used about 3 times, bobbin ran out of thread..when the bobbin was rewound and put back in the bobbin case, the needle thread does not pick up the bobbin thread. I removed the (2) small screws on the plate over the bobbin/case, removed the bobbin and case. When I turn the wheel, it appears that the timing may be out about 1/4 to 1/2". Because the components are plastic, I did not try to force it back in time for fear of breaking the parts. It is true the machine is still in warranty; however, to return for repair, you must pay shipping (which I suspect would be about $6-7) and include a check for $9.95 for return shipping. This would mean at least $16-17 for repair.....I only paid $39.99 for the machine, online from Hancock Fabrics. Does anyone know of a dealer that would service the machine? Does Hancocks handle this?

I have the exact same problem. I only got the machine delivered on Monday and have been threading and rethreading the machine since and the bobbin thread will not pick up. I have read the manual about three/four times and still no joy....

I have the same problem. I'm tryign to help my gran fix it but nothing will work, it is the first time she has used it after having it for just under a year but no results. I have been through the manual with a fine tooth pick but nothing works. I am feeling very miffed.

Is it under warranty? A dealer should be able to check it out without cost to you. Do you have the bobbin in properly.

Hi: Is this a needle provided with the machine as new? What type of fabric are you sewing... have you tried a different fabric? Is the bobbin placed into the machine correctly with it unwinding in the right direction?

Check the bobbin tension and that the thread is tight around the bobbin. Make sure that the bobbin is in the right way around - the bobbin thread should double back on itself coming out of the bobbin holder.

SIMILAR PROBLEM OF TOP THREAD ACCUMULATING IN BOBBIN AREA

it sounds like a needle threading problem. if you have the instruction book, pull yout needle thread off the machine and re-thread as per the book ie presser foot up and make sure thread goes betwen tension discs and up over takeup lever.

to check needle tension is ok, lower presser foot and pull needle thread through needle, the needle thread should be tight enough to bend the needle a little.

goodluck,

scott.

Sounds like your needle is in too far and it not allowing the needle to go down far enough to pick up the thread.

Providing you have checked to make sure the needle is in correctly, if the machine will not pick up the thread then the machine will need retiming.
