How to Clean the inner part of the glass for scanning

During scanning, I now see white dots on the photos. I could see dust on the inner part of the glass. How do I clean the inner part of the glass? I am quite technical guy so hopefully someone could point me in the right direction.

Hi scrounger. There is no glue holding the covers together. There are some interlock within the cover that makes it difficult to remove. What I did was I googled for service manual for MP800 and manage to download it. In the manual, you will have photos and detail instructions on how to remove the covers.

I have read your report jamie and must have the later 2005 model mp800 because when I undo all of the screws to get at my stuck printer tanks, the panels wont come away. Are they glued in somehow?
I'm still chasing my 6A00 fault.

Generally you should not have to clean the underside of the glass unless you are in a high dust environment. This would require disassembly of most of the printer itself. The glass is held in by double-sided tape or a bead of glue, so don't try to remove the glass sheet itself.

The easy part is the beginning, removing the scanner cover. Next you will have to locate screws around the outside and start taking panels off. Keep note of the panels and the screws. After the side panels are off, there should be a set of screws around the scanner itself that hold the scanner and plastic casing with the scanner glass. Once those are removed, the scanner glass with its frame should be able to be removed. From there you can use whatever you would like for glass cleaning, make sure it is streak free.

Older scanners make this easier. Most of them are 4-6 screws and the top half pops off and can be easily cleaned. A multifunction isn't so fun in this sense.

Hope this helps!

When I scan a photo, my Brookstone IConvert photo scanner has white lines all over the pictures.

The reason it has white lines is because the glass is dirty in the inside. If it has one speck of anything inside the scanner it turns into a line because it stays in that one place as the picture slides over it. So that line is actually a dot that is covering the picture throughout the scan. The solutions don't work. I don't suggest taking yours apart. I took mine apart and cleaned the glass. The pictures scanned fine and then the lines show up again. The real solution is to get your money back if you can. It will do this over and over. It's a design flaw in the scanner. The picture is actually squeezed as it it scanned. As pictures are squeezed against the glass... residue builds no matter how clean your pictures are.

How do I clean under the scanner head or glass? I get dust on scanned color photos at 300dpi and the glass is totally clean.

use a lint free cloth with a touch of rubbing alcohol or buy a tin of dust-off. The glass is nothing more than glass so don't be afraid of keeping it clean. You just need to be careful not to use anything that can scratch the surface. Be sure to leave the lid open to allow it to dry before scanning.

You can clean the scanner glass with warm water and a dust free cloth. Is the line always in the same spot in your scans? Could be something else other then dirty glass.

Vertical white lines in scanned image

Did you try cleaning the little glass strip where the documents go in? Lift the button panel and wipe the glass with rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs or lens paper if you have it. Mine does this sometimes when dust or white out or little bits of paper get stuck on the glass.
Good luck!

White spots on scanned photos

There's probably nothing you can do for dust under the glass, but in the Advanced settings for your scanner, there is an option to turn on "Reduce Dust & Scratches", with three different 'strengths'. You may want to try this to see if it helps.

Dirty scans

Small white dots would indicate progressive failure of the CCD[sensor] or perhaps ingress of dirt to the inside of the glass. hard to say exactly with out seeing the machine.

Vertical lines through scanned images.

You should clean the small glass under the top lid. Chances are there is some white out or ink or mark on the glass. Look carefully because usually it is just a small dot>
