That means Windows Live Messenger is unable to contact the authentication server.

Open up Live Messenger and go to Tools and go to Options. Under Connection Settings, choose Advanced Settings. Make sure there are nothing in the proxy fields. Make sure the SOCKS area has nothing in it and click okay until you get back to the Messenger window and try to sign in.

If that doesn't work and you are running Windows Vista, click start, type: cmd, right-click cmd.exe when it appears under Applications, click Run As Administrator, type the following: "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled", rress enter, restart your computer”

Hope this helps!

I continually am getting error code 81000306 when attempting to sign in to windows live messenger. I have tried all available steps, including a registry cleaner, a re-install of the messenger etc....

Hi srmbb,

That error code has to do with firewall issues. Try updating the router's firmware at the manufactures website>downloads and drivers or support.
