Question about Acer Aspire 3000 Notebook

1 Answer

Acer Aspire M1100

I just got this new computer and after updating all the latest microsoft updates & ie 8 beta it has gone crazy. It will boot up in about 20 minutes and very slow doing anything. When I try to do a system recovery through empower it is asking for a password which I never put one to start with. There are no "saved points" in which to go back either, all that shows is "searching" where a drive should be I suppose. How can I find out what it thinks is the password? Now that part of empower is gone also, I get a red circled X when I put the cursor on it. Now what? Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for your prompt reply... I tried the above but everything is so unstable now it doesn't find any program updates whatsoever. Now all the empower programs won't work either. I know I can probably do a system restore by alt+f10 but it keeps asking for a password I never setup. I know the default password is 6 zero's, but it says that isn't correct either. Just was hoping to find an easy way to find out what it thinks the password is. I guess I'll be calling acer support and spending my football saturday tied to the phone. Joy joy! But thanks for your assistance.

Welcome to beta testing -you now have feedback for Microsoft! The way to uninstall IE8 in Vista is to go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall Programs (where you find IE8 conspicuous in it's absence!) and check the View Updates box then scroll through the Windows updates for the Internet Explorer 8 Beta update, highlight and uninstall. Microsoft always shoots it self in the foot with Internet Explorer, especially with Vista which drove me to use Google's new Chrome browser which has saved me alot of frustration. When I need to use Internet Explorer I go to the Programs menu, right click on Internet Explorer and select 'Run as administrator' (yes I am already administrator but Vista wants to show me what a security-conscious weanie it was developed by) and that solves some annoyances.
As for the proprietary Empowerment by Acer, the name is an oximoron with regards to Vista. Uninstalling that and letting Windows run your network will lead to a more uneventful Internet experience which the developers and 'architecture geniuses' today have completely undervalued for their customer's happiness. Otherwise get to know how to set up profiles in that enet. Hope this helps but now am going back to reinventing the wheel for my own amusement. ~Steve Medley

I've installed windows 8 os in my acer aspire 5580 laptop, but inbuilt webcam not working

Click start control panel view devices and printers you should see your webcam from there if you are have trouble with your webcam Click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down image devices you could see a yellow question mark? right click to reinstall drivers or update driver xp Click start right click on computer select properties device manager scroll to image devices expand right click to update driver in W7 http://download.cnet.com/2000-20_4.html on the home page you should see a search tab just type in what you are looking for IE: webcam name webcam driver you might have to try a few times to get it right software if you dont have the driver you will need to download one here rather doing a driver hunt which can take hours http://download.cnet.com/slimdrivers-free/3000-18513_4-75279940.html Windows XP/Vista/7/8 It might take some time being a freeware driver solution note: it will find all of your outdated drivers this is a free driver solutions This will automatically search for and find the correct driver you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you want to restart or make a system restore point click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated Some webcams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the webcam if things are right. But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quicktime software are installed and up to date. But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including webcams, use DirectX for video processing. Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c - Windows Vista: DirectX 10). http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Which-version-of-DirectX-is-on-your-computer Hope this helps.

Why do not restored disks work for Acer Aspire M1100?

Turn off the computer Henry then turn it back on and hold down the alt key and tap F10 and make sure you remove any disks from the CD drive.
It would appear that the hard drive is having boot sector issues.

Acer aspire m1100 desktop getting a no signal on monitor, how do I get my pc to open

My Acer Aspire M1100 would not boot and had no signal to the monitor. I thought the video card or motherboard had gone bad. I tinkered with it for over 2 years (yes I'm hardheaded) and finally realized the processor had worked itself loose. Reseated the processor and it works fine again. Hope this helps someone.

Under these circumstances best is to go to control panel. Then go to add/remove programmes. Scroll down to IE 8 and click to remove it. Once removed reinstall it from Microsoft web site. You will have a new updated IE 8

WHAT IS THERE TO DO WHEN INSTALLING A NEW HARD DRIVE TO MY LAPTOP

1. Remove the old drive, noting whether it has a SATA interface or an IDE interface.
2. Take the old drive to a computer-store, to buy a new drive with the same style of connectors.
3. Connect the new drive.
4. Find the "System Restore" CD-ROM(s) that were shipped with your laptop.
5. Turn the computer on.
6. Put the first of those CD-ROMs into the computer.
7. Force the computer to boot from the CD-ROMs.
8. Reinstall Windows.
9. Install anti-virus software.
10. Access http://WindowsUpdate.microsoft.com to get all the latest security-updates for Windows. You may have to access it MORE than once, in order to get "updates-for-the-updates".

My browser wont close. if i try to close it it reopens

Looks like you have adwares/malwares/virus on your computer.

If you are using IE, update to the latest version (IE 8) We reccomend you to use <<Firefox>> 3.5.3 latest ( as on 14th Sep 2009).

update your antivirus and scan your computer completely.
enable your firewall for intrusion protection.
download and install <<CCleaner>> - choose to clear everything... clears cache containing virus (all your browsing history will be cleared as well) and download and install <<Ad-Aware>> to remove unwated softwares from you pc.

dont forget to turn off you modem when you dont use the internet...

Cheers...
