Question about Acer Aspire 3000 Notebook
I just got this new computer and after updating all the latest microsoft updates & ie 8 beta it has gone crazy. It will boot up in about 20 minutes and very slow doing anything. When I try to do a system recovery through empower it is asking for a password which I never put one to start with. There are no "saved points" in which to go back either, all that shows is "searching" where a drive should be I suppose. How can I find out what it thinks is the password? Now that part of empower is gone also, I get a red circled X when I put the cursor on it. Now what? Thanks in advance for your help!
Welcome to beta testing -you now have feedback for Microsoft! The way to uninstall IE8 in Vista is to go to Control Panel>Programs>Uninstall Programs (where you find IE8 conspicuous in it's absence!) and check the View Updates box then scroll through the Windows updates for the Internet Explorer 8 Beta update, highlight and uninstall. Microsoft always shoots it self in the foot with Internet Explorer, especially with Vista which drove me to use Google's new Chrome browser which has saved me alot of frustration. When I need to use Internet Explorer I go to the Programs menu, right click on Internet Explorer and select 'Run as administrator' (yes I am already administrator but Vista wants to show me what a security-conscious weanie it was developed by) and that solves some annoyances.
As for the proprietary Empowerment by Acer, the name is an oximoron with regards to Vista. Uninstalling that and letting Windows run your network will lead to a more uneventful Internet experience which the developers and 'architecture geniuses' today have completely undervalued for their customer's happiness. Otherwise get to know how to set up profiles in that enet. Hope this helps but now am going back to reinventing the wheel for my own amusement. ~Steve Medley
