Phil,

First off where are you from? If you have an Australian Based Version then there is a portion of the control unit that can short and illuminate the vehicle brake lights. If this is a US version then I would first disconnect the red wire on the brake control unit. If the lights stay on, I would suspect faulty brake switch. If they turn off, then something is shorted in the brake control unit. thanks paul

I am installing a brake controller on a 2014 Cadillac Escalade.

Didn't it come with a wiring diagram? If you don't have a wiring diagram for your vehicle, don't do this yourself. You can really screw up things under the dash if you don't know what you're doing.

I am trying to find out the towing capacity of a 2009 turbo diesel Nissan patrol. I have been told that being an auto reduces this.

best place to ask are towbar fitting shops
they have to certify that the modification and stamp the towing capacity
call any nissan service center and they will know
read it in your user manual
it has nothing to do with the transmission but a lot to do with whether the towed vehicle has electric brakes , over ride brakes or no brakes

How to adjustrear drum brake 2009 nissan patrol

drum brakes can be adjusted through a slot at the rear of the backing plate normally at the top. Use a flat bladed screw driver or a special tool used top adjust drum brakes. The secret to adjusting drum brakes is to adjust up till the shoes touch the drum and then hit the backing plate several times with a hammer . This allows the shoes to move into the new position and equalise out. Repeat the process until you get an even contact noise when turning the wheel. Pumping the brakes at intervals while adjusting also helps centralise the shoes into position

I'm trying to install a Tekonsha trailer brakes and need the wiring diagram

The controller should have wiring diagrams with it. Also try http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx. The truck should have a harness that plugs into the factory harness under the dash. The harness paperwork will describe where it plugs into and what wires go where along with fuse location. If you don't hav the harness, you can get it from the dealer or the site listed above.

Our truck has an Accupower Digitrac II electric brake controller

When I googled again, I found a reference which included a manufacturer's name - Tekonsha.
I then googled Tekonsha and found Tekonsha.com, and it led me to a technical support section in downloadable Adobe format with instructions for all of their brands of electric brake controllers. The instructions are very thorough and include installation, operation and troubleshooting.
