Question about SMC WIRELESS-G SMCWPICG 802.11G EZCONNECT PCI WIRELESS ADAPTER

1 Answer

SMC7901BRA Modem + Router Cannot connect

When i first got this together with a Linksys wireless-G broadband router with 4port switch, it worked fine until i moved my broadband connection to another line and another space within the house.

Now I can't get into broadband connection even if i plug in the LAN cable and do a direct dial from just the SMC router without using the Linksys. A technical guy said could be a prefix auto dial connection in this SMS. I have done a reset by pressing the reset button behind, off the modem, restart my laptop but still can't connect.

Anyhow can help me with the auto dial configuration? pls email to 250488@gmail.com, if you have any answer

thanks Steve but was thinking not to use Linksys anymore since I am not using VOIP (purchased the Linksys for VOIP usage plan earlier)

The SMC7901BRA ADSL barricade come with built in router which I can use by itself right?
So, i need help to reconfigure this SMC instead of Linksys.
    Thanks

The Linksys router can be communicated with by going to Start>Run>type 'http://192.168.1.1' and when the logon screen appears use 'linksys' for username and 'admin' for the password. There you can reset defaults, view status, configure all router functions, et al, including restore defaults. Pressing the little reset button has reset levels that vary with the amount of time it is pressed -basically discharging a capacitive charge. Remember that cable modems use DHCP whereas DSL uses PPPoE. ~Steve

OK, then here is the manual for a similar SMC barricade. IP settings for each manufacturer use the same config addresses and gateways so peruse this:

    http://www.smc.com/files/AS/MN_SMC7904WB...

Domain Name Server (DNS) is what you need to resolve the ip address and the ports are the actual connections through which all communications are made possible. The Internet connection is impossible without those but they are not the problem -only the symptoms. If you see what the ip address actually is it probably is a number that starts with 169 like 169.xxx.xx.x which means that Windows cannot connect and so it just makes up an address. Sounds silly but Windows has to put something there so it just throws out the 169 domain. But you probably don't care about that so you need to do this:

Go to Start>Run then type http://192.168.2.1, enter the password 'smcadmin' and you should be in the router configuration. This is all in Chapter 4. If you connect to the router then the next step is the Internet. I do not know how much you know so try that and read Chapter 4 so I don't have to repeat all of the words there. I am happy to help if you try that first. OK? ~Steve

Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

USB Broadband to wireless router through desktop PC

If I get you right you are useing a 3g Internet connection and have a router wich conets the 2 computers together, the problem is that you can't share the internet connection.
Without any information about the operateing systems I can tell you the idea:
First you need to disable DHCP server on the router and use static IP addresses on both PC, the IP address should be something like

PC1:
IP: 192.168.0.2
Network mask:255.255.255.0

PC2:
IP: 192.168.0.3
Network mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.2

In this IP configuration above PC1 has the 3g modem connected.
This was the easy part, hard part is to share the internet connection on the network, that's a little different ritual on every operateing system, try to use google to get your specific one.

However there's a much more easier way to solve all your problems if you can't make it work, but it costs money. All you need to buy is a 3G router and that will do the same thing for you what your old router did.
I did a little search for you on Australian Ebay to see what you can get.
But I'm sure you have your own cheapbfavourite source of computer hardware as well.

Hope this will help you sorting out your porblem.

Regards
Imre

D-Link DWL-G510 Connected but no packets

Hi,
According to the user guide for your motorola broadband modem it doesnot support wirless capability , ie it can only hook your computers to the interenet using the wire. refer the following link

http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB5101/downloads/SB5101_UG_EN.pdf

What is required , is additional pair of hardware ie.
1. Wireless Router(eg linksys or netgear)
or
2.Router/broadband modem(given by the ISP)

Your connection would then be configured through the wireless router , that would give you wireless capability.

Refer to the following link , it gives you the a step by step guide to setting up the wireless connection .
http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless/2003/03/21/home_wifi.html

Best of luck .....

Thanks
mandeep

PS Do let me know if you need more assitance.

Configuring router to work with dsl modem

Make sure that the wep password is correct.

change channels to 1-6-or 11.

check is to make sure you are NOT using "IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network."

You can find at setting under "Wireless Network Connection Properties" and then under "Authentication" tab of your network properties.

This particular authentication method is periodically logging you off the network and re-authenticating.

Check the adapter in device manager to make sure that windows is not shutting the adapter down to save power.

Cordless phones and wireless ethernet cards use overlapping frequencies. As a test, you can unplug the AC cords from all the cordless phones1.gif in the area and see if it helps.
Also, check and see if the usb ports and the device are being shut down to save power, in device manager.

How to set up network on belkin G+ wireless usb adapter

do you have a Wireless Router + Broadband modem?

This is like a base station to which your remote wireless node communicates (to get connected to your home network and internet.

something like this http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=187337 for an ADSL connection.

If you are on cable, you can either get a Router similar to the one above (but for cable) http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1138056788757&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=8875739789B01

or if your Cable modem has LAN ports you may just be able to use an "Access Point" to add Wireless capabilities. http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1126536803676&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=0367639789B22
