You need that code if you are using a video program or application to convert determinates files to mp3 -

TO install that to your computer do that:

After downloading, go to the location where you saved the file and double click on it.

    2. Then push the Extract button from the WinZip window.

    3. A new dialog window will pop up. Select the folder where you want to extract the files (if you don't have a folder, you should create it).

    4. Go to where you have extracted the files - in this case C:\Downloads\lameACM - right-click on the "LameACM.inf" file and select Install.

    Notes:
    - You may encounter a prompt saying: "The software you are installing for this hardware... has not passed Windows Logo testing..."; click on the Continue Anyway button.
    - The install option may not be present if you do not have the administrative rights to do so, or if the software is being run from a different drive to the operating system (usually C:).

Successful VBR audio conversion for AVI's with Standalone DVD DivX Players

PROBLEMS FOR STANDALONE DVD PLAYBACK OF AVI and DIVX
  • Variable Bitrate Audio (CBR is the standard for standalone DVD AVI's in VBR will cause progressive audio lag errors)
  • Audio Split across Interleaves (Aligned with Interleaves is standard and no known playback errors will occur)
  • Non-AVI v2.0 container (MP4 and MKV containers are too new for most players)
  • Framerate 25fps for PAL(UK) OR 23.97fps for NTSC(USA) if in the UK you need to re-encode to 25 frames per second to ensure correct playback
  • FOURCC not DX50 or DIVX (XVID will work but maybe jumpy)
  • Packed Video Bitstream ** (see N-VOP below this may need to be unpacked) the easiest way to unpack this without re-encoding is to use MPEG4 Modifier from Moitah that will do it in about 30s you can also change the DAR and PAR as shown below
  • Third party software known to interfere with the normal use of DivX for Windows Software.
Some sections contain options for removing many filters that have the *potential* to interfere with the good operation of DivX for Windows. download the DivX All in One Fix HERE it is a good starting point if you know you have installed codec packs that might interfere with your DivX encoding.

f6de826.jpg

These normally use for AVI's that are enocoded for PC playback only and are NOTsupported on Standalone DVD players so should be removed using VirtualDub or one of the other applications mentioned below.
  • B-VOP's (Bidirectional Video Object Frames, which improves the playback quality)
  • P-VOP's(Predictive Video Object Frames)
  • N-VOP's (can be Zero Time as in a packed bitstream** OR non-Zero Time)
  • QPel (Quarter Pixel Encoding used to improve MPG4-ASP compression over the standard Half-Pixel or normal MPG4)
  • GMC (Global Motion Compensation, will improve scenes where there is lots of motion)

The first job is to change the VBR audio to a CBR there are only a few sucessful ways to do this use VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod with the LAME or Fraunhofer ACM, its easier to do this with Avery Lee's version the Mod version requires lots of de-muxing converting and re-muxing

If you have DivX Pro Convertor licenced with the Professional v6.9.1 of the codec the Video will be fine however the audio with remain at the VBR and will cause you playback audio errors the FOURCC codec will be changed and the aspect ratio for Home Theater will change to the video will be fine, notice that GSpot displays only the DivX503b2851p metadata and no ISFT tag while the VDub twins show the metadata as DivX503b2816p a lower build number than for the Pro Convertor.

e23c318.gif

Its also a good idea to change the Codec to DivX if you leave it at XVid it will play but it will skip and become annoying well it is a free libavcodec and way and is great to use on just your PC the example above shows what will happen after a successful DivX Convertor change notice the audio MP3 remains at VBR, this will cause audio sync errors even if the audio frames are aligned with Interleaves

64a8cca.gif

The above example shows what will happen if you use VirtualDubMod and VirtualDub both with give you CBR audio so will work on your DivX enabled DVD player however the VDubMod version will keep the Audio frames aligned with Interleaves which is a more successful method especially with AC3 audio VDubMod is good at this see my tip HERE.

SPLIT ACROSS vs ALIGNED WITH INTERLEAVES

Gspot tells us that "Split" means that some audio frames are split across interleaves, i.e. part of the audio frame resides in one chunk and the remainder of it is in another, with a video chunk in between. On v2.5 beta the wording is "audio split across interleaves" or "audio aligned on interleaves", which should help to make it clearer. I'm not making any claims about the relative merit of one scheme vs. the other, but it does seem important enough to report.

  • Nandub splits AC3 audio, BUT not MP3 in CBR nor VBR
  • VirtualDub always seems to Split across interleaves even when the LAME ACM is used.
  • VirtualDubMod splits AC3, but does not split CBR MP3. however it will split VBR MP3 if you answer "YES" to the question about allowing it to "rewrite the header" Otherwise it Aligns.
  • AVIDemux will Split as default however it will Align with if the reservoir is check on the MP3(lame) conversion.
  • AVI ReComp will Align as it uses a bundled version of VirtualDubMod that will allow you to edit the AVS Script if you know how to di this, very advanced stuff.
  • AVIMuxGUI never splits anything always Aligns.

THE VERDICT:

VirtualDub's method is very simple and uses the LAME MP3 ACM to perform the task in 1/4 of the time it takes with the VirtualDubMod version and I have had no playback audio errors with either version have a look at my tips and exactly how to best perform these two methods HERE

FINAL THOUGHT:

You might like to tryout AVI ReComp v1.5.0 (that uses VirtualDubMod v1.5.10.2) that will keep the video in the libavcodec XVID FOURCC (the DivX codec is not yet supported) format BUT will skip when played back on a Standalone Player the audio conversion however is very easy as shown below

578346d.jpg

If you choose to use another alternative AVIDemux v2.5 even when a VBR timemap is created to keep the Audio and Video in Sync

a44d106.jpg

The Video codec is still XVID so will give you a few skip errors. The Audio conversion is best done using the MP3 (lame) which is the same used in VirtualDub if you disable reservoir in the LAME config then it will become Aligned in the same way VirtualDubMod operates.

f3c0f5d.jpg

Here are the results for the alternative conversions but only the audio is changed as they can't change to DivX note that AVIDemux Splits across Interleaves like VirtualDub (unless de-reservoir is used) and AVI ReComp uses VirtualDubMod and so it remains Aligned,

cb6cdbe.gif

FOOTNOTE:

It is also worth mentioning that it you want to convert your AVI's into DVD format VSO's ConvertXtoDVD will handle any Video codec and Audio codec bitrate even a variable bitrate (VBR) and create DVD Video's with no audio sync problems, by default all DVD Video VOB's audio are at a constant bitrate (CBR) it also has the added option to resize and pad to give you the DAR that you require for you TV.

On the flip side the one and only way to convert a DVD format into an AVI is to use AutoGordianKnot by len0x (based on VirtualDubMod with AVISynth) which will encode a an AVI with the FOURCC of DX50 with either CBR AC3,DTS or MP3 with flawless results everytime with the Audio Aligned on Interleaves for best playback.

8579b46.jpg

It also has the option to encode into XviD with a VBR MP3 audio but this will give audio lag when played on standalone DVD players with often jerky video, so stay away from this unless you plan only to watch the conversion on a PC.

EXTRA NOTE:

It must also be added that even the DivX Convertor Plus v8.0 latest bundle codec v6.9.2 that includes the DivX HD format using the MKV container as opposed to the usual AVI container will not convert a VBR video stream to CBR but create excellent H.264 files with AAC audio streams.

ebb68c9.jpg
These screen dumps from G-spot clearly show that the AVI v2.0 container for the original VBR XVID codec converted using VirtualDubMod v1.5.10.2 has been converted to DivX using the 720x576 Home Theater format with audio frames still aligned on interleaves but has kept the troublesome VBR (variable bitrate video) this will cause your standalone DVD player with DivX progressive audio errors. You must still convert to CBR first using one of the methods above to ensure non-failure.

946d2b9.jpg

Come on guys at DivX lets have the Home Theatre format convert VBR to CBR as standard ....

Activate the Faunhofer IIS MP3 Professional Codec remove Advanced

The WMP Bundled MP3 codec is the L3CODECA.ACM encoder "Fraunhofer Advanced MPEG" codec has limitations on available bit-rates andkeeps the sampling rate at below 22,050Khz it is licensed by Microsoft and ACM (Audio Compression Manager) is also by Microsoft

d717309.gif

To improve the bitrates and sample rates available to you install and activate the Professional Fraunhofer ACM codec this is called L3CODECP.ACM, use the included TWEAK to remove the Advanced version and enable the Professional version after you have installed it.

5546fdb.gif

The another version of the Fraunhofer MP3 codec is L3CODECX.ACM, and is a decode version ONLY and can be seen in the drivers.desc in the registry this can't be used as an ACM for re-encoding in VirtualDub and other such programs. This is also included in the zip file HERE

If you want to remove the MP3 decoder only L3CODECX.ACM I suggest that you use Codec Sniper be carefull only DELETE press once keep your sound ON if it says HEADSHOT it has been removed....

3bc46d3.gif

Check with Sherlock Detective to see if the Codec has been removed sucessfully this is also the best way to view all your Audio and Video codecs it will give you version number and manufacture details
  • l3codecx.acm: v1.0.0.64 (included in WMP6.4 decode only)
  • l3codeca.acm v1.9.0.305 (Advanced): Encodes up to 56Kbps
  • l3codecp.acm v3.4.0.0 (Professional): Encodes up to 320Kbps. (included in WMP10+11)
  • l3codecp.acm (so-called "Radium" version): Encodes up to 320Kbps
If you want to extract this latest L3CODECP.ACM v3.4.0.0 that has unlimited encoding use this little tip its perfectly legal to do this by the way.

609863c.jpg

Download the wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe it may require Windows Genuine Activation then save it to the root folder then extact it the Professional Version of the Codec L3CODECP.ACM, will be included in the wmp11.exe extract this and then just copy it to the system32 folder use THIS reg tweak to install it.

Need to download ringtones to my sandisk and put on my cell phone

Download an application called "audacity" after you downlaod and install it, you will need to get a file called lame mp3 encoder. You can then open a file in audacity and crop out the portion of the song you need to use as a ringtone. when you export as an mp3 audacity will ask for the lame mp3 encoder, just open the file location where you installed the encoder.

here are detailed instructions:

  1. Go to the LAME download page. ( http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/ )
  2. Under "For Audacity on Windows", left-click on the link "libmp3lame-win-3.97.zip" and save the zip folder to anywhere on your computer.
  3. When you have finished downloading the ZIP folder, unzip it and save the file lame_enc.dll that it contains to anywhere on your computer.
  4. The first time you use the "Export as MP3" command, Audacity will ask you where lame_enc.dll is saved.

That will get you a portion of the song, but depending on the phone you have will determine how you use that clip as a ringtone.

Hope this helps!

Convert ans AVI with MP3 VBR to a CBR with VirtualDub to avoid DVD audio synch...

Why are do we have MP3's with a VBR, whats the point?

VBR encoded MP3's are generally smaller than standard MP3s of the same sound quality and generally sound better, especially in the high frequencies it's also great for spoken word audio as there are often pauses and silence between sentences. However most MP3 players especially the decoders on standalone DVD players with DivX support will exhibit progressive audio delay errors with VBR audio of any type.

If you open an AVI with VBR audio MP3 track in VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod it will give you this WARNING that you may experience progressive audio errors this is certainly the case especially if you want to convert your downloaded DivX Stage 6 into DVD format that use CBR audio in either LPCM or AC3

11d7a15.jpg

You will need to download the Lame ACM MP3 codec extract it to a temp folder then right click on LameACM.inf, and choose install this will register and install the ACM for use with VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod note you can do this without the ACM package there is also an AC3 ACM codec that you might as well install at the same time this will allow VirtualDub to decompress Dolby Digital 5.1 audio streams.

PROCEDURE ONE:
-------------------------
Convert using an ACM or audio compression manager for the required MP3 codec use the same one that Gspot tells you that has been used either LAME or

  • Open Virtualdub, open your video then select Direct Stream Copy from the audio menu tick full processing mode, and then choose audio compression. The Lame MP3 should show up in the left-hand list choose CBR stereo on the right.
ee84f39.jpg
  • It a good idea to look in the file information so that you make sure to choose the same sample frequency as the original VBR MP3 in this case its 48,000Hz you don't want to re-sample it it will take extra time
This screendump shows the original XVID @ bitrate of 979 kbps with a 154kbps VBR audio MP3 and sample rate of 48KHz this will not work on most standalone DVD

9c9585c.jpg

This screendump shows the AVI re-encoded to DivX iwth a fourcc of DX50 @ bitrate of 1,000 kbps with a 128kbps CBR audio MP3 and sample rate of 48KHz this will not work on all DivX certified DVD players the pixel aspect is also 720x576.

9c3da7f.jpg

The framerate has also been converted (NOT CHANGED) from FILM 23.976 to the UK standard of PAL 25fps you can't adjust it it must be done on the lower section of the window.

3fe4807.jpg

PROCEDURE TWO:
-------------------------
Use AVIDemux v2.52 or the latest beta AVIDemux to do the whole process for you it will create a VBR timemap to keep the AV in synch without it forget it !!!

a59c513.jpg

It also allows you to convert the audio using the LAME ACM MP3 and convert to to a CBR it should take about 15mins for a 350MB AVI file don't forget to keep the AVI container packed Video bitstream to give the best re-encoding results to give you the OpenDML AVI v2.0

eb036d3.jpg

I have used this with mixed results it is definitely the easiest to use option with a great GUI it just takes a while to know which buttons to press to give the required results, you can also set a time lag/lead for fixed audio problems and increase the audio volume in (dB) decibels for low volume audio. You have been warned the easy isn't the best way

43897ee.jpg

This shows that Avidemux has converted the AVI file to a FOURCC of DX50 required for Standalone DVD with DivX compatibility and a CBR 0x0055 MPEG-1,layer 3 the video bitstream was unpacked this will give you AVI v1.0 which you may have still problems with so leave is packed to ge the AVI v2.0 container

PROCEDURE THREE:
---------------------------
If this does not work and you still get a progressive audio error when you convert it to a DVD you can use a combination of AVIMux GUI ,VirtualDubMod and WinMP3 packer to split the Video and Audio change the audio stream to CBR and rejoin the two.

Open up the file in AVIMux GUI extract the binary of the audio track you need to right click it do get this then use WinMP3Packer to convert the extracted MP3 file into an MP3 file with a CBR of the same sample rate of 48KHz

88ffc7f.jpg

Open up the full AVI in VirtualDubMod it will warn you about the improper VBR in the source click NO to rewriting the packet header, next change the video to Direct Stream Copy" and disable the audio track under the streams > stream list option and save as AVI the file with the audio VBR disabled

7da2482.jpg

the audio stream must show hatched as below to ensure that the track is removed

34f6dc9.jpg

Then I go back into VirtualDubMod, open up the AVI saved without audio, change the video to "Direct Stream Copy" go into Stream List add the re-encoded CBR MP3, and then save as AVI.

Check to see if the MP3 has been changed to CBR in GSpot also check it for sync errors fast forward to the middle and end and you will know straight away in VirtualDub or use another media player VLC is a good one that uses the free Libavcodecs.

You should then be able to convert the AVI to DVD format using ConvertXtoDVD If you have burned the result to DVD, see if the result of the converted file (before it was burned to DVD) has the same synchronization problems in order to make sure that the audio problems are not due to bad media. You may have to redo the conversion with the option "Burn result to DVD" and/or "Delete folder after successful burn" unchecked Use the latest version of VLC www.videolan.org to watch the result

However If the unburned result also has the problem, you can check "Don't check/fix audio discontinuities" (in settings under "Audio" tab) redo the conversion and see if the result is any better.

How to install mp3 in a v3i cellular phone?

On your PC if you go into Start/Settings/Control panel/Sounds and Audio devices, under Hardware tab/Audio codecs, click Properties, you'll see the driver listed as "Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 codec (decode only)". This confirms that the wrong driver is installed.
Something you installed, probably to burn CDs, installed a playback-only version of the driver. The driver is l3codeca.acm, which is replaced by the playback-only version l3codecx.acm.
You need to edit the Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32. Locate the item named msacm.l3acm.
Its value should be changed from l3codecx.acm to l3codeca.acm.
Note that you might have to use the full path name thus:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\l3codeca.acm
For its name to appear properly in the Audio codecs list.

If that's not your problem, and you want to tranfer files to and from Mob/PC.

If you still have them on you're computer I would convert them to a format and bitrate more suited to the blackberry. I know it is a pain converting as it takes a while, but it is worth it as you can listen to the files in not bad quality( for a biz orientated device).
