Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

DNS error hi, im currently at my grandparents house trying to setup my ps3 to the internet. They dont have a router so i brought the one i use from home. They have a Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard Cable Modem and the router im trying to use is a Netgear WGR614 v7 wireless router. For the past 3 days ive been trying to re-configure my router to their internet connection and i am having numerous issues. I re-configured it to their IP address and DNS addresses and everything. When i set everything up, the wireless switch on the router is green, the internet switch is green, the lan switch that goes to my ps3 is green, but the lan switch that goes from the router to the back of the computer is orange and there is no internet connection on the computer eventho the internet switch is green. And when i go to set up the network connection on my ps3 it reads the IP address but i get the DNS error everytime. ive tried making it wireless but that doesn't work either. I've disabled the media server connection, put in the DNS address 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.20 and that neither of those work either...ive rebooted the cable modem and the router several times each and no luck. Im guessing i somehow have to set all of this up and maintain and internet connection on the computer as well for it to read it but i have no idea how to manage that. I'm also trying to make it so that i can just reset their internet setup to the way it was when i leave to go home within the next week or two so im not trying to change anything thats not reversable...i just bought socom confrontation wednesday and really dont feel like waiting a few weeks to get to play it...anybody have any ideas? sorry this things so long but over the past few days ive tried a million things and nothings working. Thanks

Cant connect to netflix error code 80130182

Without knowing more, sounds like you need to check the PS3's WiFi settings to make sure the unit is really connected through your home internet service's router to the internet. Make sure the WiFi protocol on the PS3 and the WiFi password validate correctly in the Settings, and that they match that you have set on the WiFi setup of the ISP's router. With a mismatch here to the WiFi settings, nothing on the PS3 will connect to the internet. If it all checks out but the unit doesn't connect to WiFi, if other devices in your house do and you have matched the settings, could be an indication of a problem with the PS3 hardware, scope of which to help you resolve is beyond this forum.

Trying to set ps3 on line it is asking for wep

Hello, the wep key is the password you setup for internet access on your router/modem. It is used to protect your home LAN, so let's say it is the same password you have to insert when you access to the internet with your pc/laptop. If you didn't setup it by yourself you should then ask to whom is taking care of it at home. If you need more info please ask. Good luck, Peter

Need wpa key to set up internet with my ps3 but dont know wat that is?

WPA is a Wireless Internet Authentication technology. It is setup through your home wireless router. If you have home wireless internet, you should know your WPA or WEP key. However, you dont have Wireless, you might just want to run a network cable from your router to the Playstation.

DNS error

you can get the dns setting by connecting a computor to the broadband the steps are
  1. goto 'start'
  2. goto 'run'
  3. type 'cmd.exe'
  4. in the commmand prompt type 'ipconfig' , it gives all the details about your broadband.
DNS error generaly means that there is nothing wrong with your system but ther must be a problem with your internet provider..

Can the ps3 be hooked to the internet without using a computer?

Yes - but it depends on your current setup. The way I would recommend setting it up would be plugging the PS3 into a router. A router is a box that splits your internet among the computers, laptops, and any other device that uses internet in your house. It is possible that you don't own one at the moment and in that case I would recommend that you purchase a Linksys "WRT54G" router. All you need to do is have your incoming internet plug into the yellow port on it and then any out going plug into the other ports labeled one through four.

If this didn't answer your question - please post a comment and I will get back to you and hopefully help you out =)

HI im trying to setup my wireless but it keeps failing and giving me a code 801302203 i can use the internet via the ethanet cable

Your wireless router may be too far away from the PS3 or could have a faulty router, the wireless funtion and the wired function on a router are 2 diff things as far as hardware.

Call Sony @ 1-877-253-SONY(7669) and see what they say.

Ive got a 40gb ps3 and a bt home hub wireless router how do i connect ps3 to computer ps ps3 is upstairs and pc downstairs

look on the back of your home hub. there should be a Wireless Key in a Grey box. (BT Home Hub wireless settings)

note the wireless key.

go to your ps3. and turn it on log on ect. go to settings and down to network settings (right at bottom).

(Im not sure of the next section because im currently on a network but it should be an option to find network).

anyway you search for networks. should find your home hub.

keep going right untill you have to enter any settings. and write your WEP Key (Not WKA). (wireless key from back of router).
