1993 Saturn SL2 won't start

Ok there is an update to my problem. The car just randomly didn't start one day and still doesn't start. It tries to turn but doesn't completely turn over. Apparently there is also some black smoke coming out of my tailpipe as well. I don't have a blown head gasket do I?

A blown head gasket is white smoke from the tail pipe, black smoke is a sign that it is running to rich. yourproblem sounds like a timing problem.

If it is a random problem, you may have to wait until it is a solid failure to find the cause.
Could be the key switch, the neutral safety switch, the starter solenoid, or a cable connection.
A mechanic would check all of these components for voltage when it will not crank.

Saturn sl2 automatic...put a starter in..still won't start..all dummy lights up and battery is good...go to turn the key and nothing...help..
Most of the time this is caused by the anti theft system. It disables the starter and leaves you stuck. This is very common on GM vehicles. Read up on this link for info, pictures, and "do it yourself" solutions to the problem.

My 1993 Saturn SL2 will start and run ok until it warms up. After that the idle will be close to stall and there is a distint lack of power. The check engine light does not come on.
Have the battery checked, how long has it been since you changed the fuel filter? It is rec. every 2 years. Have you changed the spark plug wires recently? you could have two wires backwards.

We have a 1993 saturn sl2 and it will not start. It will turn over but just keeps trying to start but wont quite do it. We have been having problems with the ECT sensor and had it replaced. Also the idle...
check the fuel pump or the fuel filter, sounds to me like you are not building up the proper fuel pressure.

Have you had your alternator checked? If batt. and alt. check out ok, then I would check to see if it is getting fire when it won't start and have the fuel pressure checked.

1st take the positive post off when you start removing it. You will have to remove the ball joint on that side to get it off.
