Question about OKI Printers & Copiers

2 Answers

Oki C5900N printer: got zapped after electrical storm - I assume it may be the fuse. Repair company said that the driver motor needs replacing and quoted very high price. My daughter's school was going to throw it away - now I'm keen to open it up and have a try. Can't find a repair manual on the internet. My skill level - limited but confident (ie can replace fuses and capacitors and any obvious problems). Thanks Guy Francis

So far no joy. Have tried to download the drivers but an error keeps occurring. As a result the driver does not seem to be fuly installed.

Even with the computer attached to the printer, there is no detection of new hardware by the computer and the computer keeps going to "communication error".

A friend of mine suggested that it still might have some damaged hardware in the printer. So I'll give it to him to play with (he does work on computers). If I get a result, I'll post the solution.

Thanks for all advice give so far. Any more is most welcome.

Thanks for the info - I'll put the printer back together and give it a try. When it said "driver motor" I was thinking one of the motors was not working (so I'll screw this back in!) and jumped the gun and took it apart. A bit too hasty here.

When I turned it on, the LCD display read: "communication error". No computer was attached at the time. Basically everything seems to be working... and as advised perhaps it's a software problem. My question here is how does a lightning strike (on a building - that killed a computer and give the principal an electric shock) affect software and drivers??

So I'll put it together and follow your instructions and let you know how I went. Thanks

Guy

Hi grf, try updating your printer drivers:

Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop(watch for the light yellow bar at the top of window viewing pane, click on this and choose – download file - . Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done.

Error 980 on OKI C5900 fatal error

First, there is no model C5900. There is a model C5800. On the assumption that you are having this issue with a C5800 then the problem is media wrapped around the fuser. After cooling you can try to unravel or unwind the wrapped media but you may need to replace the fuser.
