Hello,

A keypad overlay may be on. If the numlock light or cursor control
mode light is on, press Fn + F10 to turn off the cursor control mode
light, or Fn + F11 to turn off the numlock light.

If the problem occurs when both the keypad overlays are off, make
sure the software you are using is not remapping the keyboard.
Refer to the software documentation and check that the program
does not assign different meanings to any of the keys.

Should this not work, let me know. Any further questions, use the comment box below as well to contact me. I'll receive an email notification of your additional question rather quickly so stay online.

Thanks for using fixya.

Lenovo s1o number lock stuck. i am unable to use keyboard. FN key non responsive. any suggestions are appreciated!

Hello

If the key is physically stuck in the "down" or pressed postion, the key may have become disconnected from the mechanism underneath that returns it to the "up" position.

All keys on all keyboards can be removed. This includes laptops. On laptops, the keys typically have less travel (up and down) than a desktop keyboard and the key attaches to the keyboard differently.

In either case, use a small screwdriver or your fingernail and gently lift up on the key - to return it to the "up" position. When in that position, see if the rest of the keyboard works.

If it does, you can simply lift up on the key and remove it from the keyboard. The support that is underneath will either be removed with the key or will remain on the keyboard.

Re-attaching the key involves aligning the key with the ends of the support bracket and snapping it back into place. (Most keyboards have a white plastic structure that forms a X on 2 sides - allowing the key to move up and down.)

With the key removed, look at the edges of the surrounding keys to get an idea of how it attaches, align the parts and press it back into place.

GENERIC KEYBOARD ALPHA KEYS DO NOT WORK PROPERLY

Numbers do though? If this is the case, try a different keyboard. If the keys are outputting different characters, then you should check the character map, oh wait that should only apply to alternate Operating systems, hum, then again XP does have that accessibility thing... Bottom line: If a different keyboard with the same connection works, just e-waste/recycle/trash that keyboard...

Still cannot get my computer to change from numbers pad to letters on my laptop Wwilsworld@AOL.COM

Your PC appears to be stuck in "Num Lock" mode. Depending on your model, you should be able to toggle this mode with the "Num Lock" key. Once it is out of this mode, the letters keys should work.

Unlocking Toshiba Portege M300

Try logging in as Administrator with no password, if it says that account is disabled, reboot in safe mode (while the comptuer is coming up, hit the F8 key - then choose safe mode) and then log in as Administrator with no password. Then you can go to control panel and take off the passwords for the users.

I have just bought my son a laptop,i cant get connected to my live box it says the wireless is on but the light is not on also on the keyboard i have to hold the fn button down to use the letters m j k l u...

Have a look at the F keys at the top of the keypad. The fn key is a toggle key. It changes the mode to something and then back again when you press it. There will be an F key with a picture of a keyboard on it (probably) (Dont press the one with the the picture of a computer on or your screen will go off)
Press fn and the keyboard Fkey together to toggle back to alpha keyboard rather than numeric.
