Question about RCA P61960 61" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

RCA P61960 Picture is concaved

The left and right sides of the screen normal but the middle seems to be condensed/smaller. Tried using the service menu, P0 V72, change P1 through P23. I could change the size and position, P10 and P11, but could not change it to remove the concave.

Picture on projection screen is concave in the middle

This set does not use IC's for convergence. Most other brands do use IC's.They use individual transistors in this one and honestly I don't remember ever seeing these go bad. Normally it is the power supply that runs the convergence transistors or more commonly known as the convergence board. It gets pretty technical with this type of problem. Have a repair shop check it out for you and avoid the headache. Thanks

P61960

I was tring to remove the concave off my screen and came across a setting where you can make the picture larger or smaller. On the TV, not the remote, press and hold the menu button, press and release the power button, press and release the volume up button and release the menu button. P0 and V0 will be displayed on the screen press the volume up button until the V0 is V76. Press the channel up button until P0 is P11 and press the volume up/down button to make the picture larger/smaller. If you need to center the picture press the channel down button until P11 is P10 and press the volume up/down button to center your picture. I hope this helps

That sounds like a Pincushion problem if you having bowing. It's probably bad caps and diodes on the deflection module. This is not an easy fix. If you know how to read a diode and you visually inspected the caps you might have some chance of fixing it yourself.

There is a mode these set run in that stretches the side so the screen is completely filled, this is so the people do not seem all fat and short, this mode is known as Panoramic, this is one of the screen settings you can choose, I believe your set has a 4X5 or normal mode, 16X9 and maby a 16X9 zoom, the panoramic and maybe one more, find the format button on the remote and cycle through them

61 inch proj. warped concave picture.

Josh Any chance you could send a photo... Too many ideas come to mind from what you've described. Would actually have to see the "warp" in the picture itself to see if it's one or all colors, any boarders and if the bend is actually pulling from top or bottom.. Bill premtech@willapabay.org
