Several times a week my router will not connect. The lights flash on the router and the internet light flashes on the dsl modem but it will not connect. The only way I can get the router to work is to hook the dsl ethernet cable directly to the computer.. verify I am in the internet, then quickly pull the feed from the modem to the computer and plug it in to the router and plug the output of the router into the computer. Linksys BEFW11s4 router and Speedstream 5100 dsl modem.. The dsl modem works reliably when connected directly to the computer.

Re: Linksys routetr problem
The problem can be caused, because of two reasons, one the router profile on the computer has got corrupted and second the router itself. Have you tried resetting the router to factory defaults.. Caution: all wireless security settings and user name and passwords would go back to factory defaults.
1.Disconnect all cable from the back of the router.
2. Shut down your computer and the DSL box
3.Press the reset button, using a paper clip at the back of the router.Keep it pressed for 5 seconds
4. Disconnect the power cord to the router
5. Switch on the Dsl box, wait for the lights to stablize
6. Reconnect the interenet cable and the power cable to the router and power it on.
7 Let the lights stabalise on the router and power on the computer.
Check if that resolves the problem, if not we might need to update the router.

i am not sure what king of network you may have.. if you have DSL make sure that you have a DSL filter on the phone jacks, next make sure that the router or DSL is seeing green lights called DSL / Power / Ethernet is more likely standing light, next you will see green light flashing / that called Internet.
and rule number one make sure that your user name and password is right. make sure that there no space or some thing that should not be in the password or user name.. if you need more help i am glade to help you more out
two things are you hooked up from the dsl to the router via Ethernet or usb is so check the settings in the router, it should be auto, so it could choose but lets not assume anything.may sure dhcp client or server is enabled on the router, if not it would not pick up the ip adddress from dsl. Is the mac address of your computer hardcoded to your dsl, if it is then you would have to clone your pc mac to the router for it to work. If this is not the case, try a different router if it works the router is faulty. if that does not work plug the dsl directly to the pc and go to start, run type ipconfig /all if you recieve an ip address and you can see a dns address from your isp and you can go to the internet, then the problem is your router, if not the problem is with you isp dsl, please contact them. was this helpful let me know.
Have you tried a hard reset? Your model has a small reset button at the rear between the Internet/WAN connection and one of the antennas (Press for 10 seconds +).
Also flashing power led is an indicator of firmware problem which might have been caused by a failed firmware upgrade/update. Instruction on how to correct this problem is also included in the firmware upgrade/update. A more detailed instruction is in the User Manual.
With regards to firmware update/upgrade , pls be reminded that firmware is very version specific. To locate the version number, you have to look underneath the unit and download the appropriate firmware from LinkSys website. (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859878881&packedargs=sku%3D1115416826220&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=7888126220B03&displaypage=download)
The download is a zip file which you have to extract to a folder. The .bin file plus instructions as well as specific instructions on how to make the power led stop flashing.
Hope this works out for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.
