Cheap Tech,
I just had to write and say THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!! We had the same thing happen. We tried your solution and it worked like a charm. We can't thank you enough. These days, and in this economy, who can afford to go out a buy a new TV (especially when the one you have is only 3 yrs old)?? As an aside, we will NEVER buy a Toshiba again...

Randyco03,

Glad this was of help! Normally I don't take the time to post about stupid fixes that I find but was so dumbfounded by how easy this fix was and how little information was available about it that I just had to post... I travel quite a bit so you never know, I might end up on your door step looking for beer!

Good Luck,

CheapTech

HOW TO FIX PLASMA TV

Hello Brad, obviously the repair man messed it up!
Have you paid him?
Call him back, if he won't (or can't) get a refund and go to the manufacturers website (customer service)
If the guy won't pay you back, mention the ombudsman...
Sorted...
Good luck??

No power

Hi,

First Check the power cord to TV, try a different one.

If you are experienced you can take the back panel off the TV

Check for

- Internal fuse inside TV might have blown, its on the power supply board (white fuse, slow blow)
- Buldging Capacitors or they may have leaked brown substance on top or circuit board

If you are going to do this yourself make sure you do not touch the contacts on under side of the circuit board that connect to the LARGE capacitor (looks like a giant battery)

Replacing the fuse is easy no experience needed, make sure you replace it for an exact match, it will say the rating on the metal caps at each end of the fuse.

If it is not the fuse you can de solder the blown capacitors and replace them with new ones.

Total Cost of repair if you have soldering iron and tools will only be about £3 or $5

Otherwise get a pro to repair it for you, but you might pay around £80 or $120

OR

You can note down the model name on the power supply circuit board and Google it.
You might be able to buy a replacement power supply which will be cheaper than paying a TV repair man to get the part and fit it

Hope this helps

Wow that is a lot of money in any currency. Coming from England its not uncommon to be paying £200+ to repair a tv like yours. If you could give a little more information then maybe I could narrow it down for you. You say its gone black but does your standby light still come on? If you try to turn it on with the remote control does the stanby light flash quickly then re-appear? Or does it come out of standby and have a black screen? Can youm get sound through a dvd player but no picture? If you can answer these questions who knows maybe he will do it cheaper if you supply the part yourself!!! Dont think he will but worth a try :-) please post again.

Hi! :)

I just phoned Sharp Canada about the exact same problem with my LC32D40U and they will do absolutely nothing to help with this problem. If your warranty is expired too bad for you. They couldn't care less that my TV is only 2 yrs old, and they have nothing on file as to problems with this model even though there are numerous postings about it online.

You should phone anyway and hopefully the more people who phone Sharp might actually do something about it.

Turn off your set. ( wait for the light and the fan to shut down) push and hold the Input button on the panel, power it on with the power button on the tv, as soon as you see the service menu appear, let go of the input button. Scroll down to : LCD adjust, toggle blue button to the right, another screen will appear. Adjust the squares on the screen until the ghosts are gone. hit Exit twice::Ghosts are Busted!
