Question about Nikon Coolpix 5400 Digital Camera

Blur on LCD and on pictures taken

Recently I turned on my Coolpix 5400 and when I looked at the LCD monitor I saw that there were fuzzy edges around objects. I thought perhaps when i took the pictures, they would be okay--they looked better on the LCD. The pictures turned a slight tint of purple and are blurred to the point wherer you can't tell what the original shot was. Think someone fingerpainting a line down a picture. Anyone have any ideas before I take it to the shop?

Sorry to tell you this but your CCD is gone. In a fwe days time pics will be black in color. CP 5400 uses a batch of defective Sony CCD's. Nikon's service center in Kolkata, India replaced the CCD in my CP 5400 free of cost. This was because Nikon has issued a service advisory. Try your luck with the Nikon service center closest to your home!

I have a blurry image distortion in the center of the picture only- everything else looks fine- a solution to my problem?

Hi,

is the central of lcd divice bumped ?

1-are your lcd device show the correct image without any blur before taking the image ?

2- or this blur shown after taking the picture ?

for the first : your device lens should be clean through inner side.

for the second : the lcd should be checked , since the center of lcd may be bumped.

please let me know your checking result.

good luck

Lack of definition, blurriness.

Experiment with lowering the "exposure compensation" setting until you get the desired results. Also, don't forget to use a tripod.

Fuzzy background on tv picture

This is probably a combination of 2 things. In both causes 1 and 2 below, I would suggest checking the TV with a BluRay Player with BluRay disc connected using an HDMI Cable. If you complain about this, then the TV is probably not that great. Expect a $200 jump to a better model at the least (but this depends on what you have now). Honestly, this is fairly normal and wont change much with the next TV.

CAUSE 1: Motion BLUR
Motion blur occurs when fast moving objects are displayed on LCD TVs. Basically, it takes time for the LED lights that make up the picture to turn ON and OFF, when and object shown on the TV is moving faster than the LCD TV can turn these lights ON and OFF, you see the trail left behind as the lights dim to OFF. This look like blur because you see the current image and the trail of the old images. 120HZ and 240HZ LCD TV are supposed to improve this but honestly, they are at times 300+ dollars more and not really worth it. Very little difference except in some few cases.

CAUSE 2: Digital TV
Digital signals are hit or miss. Good or BAD. If you are watching Cable, Satelite or Antenna; it is likely you are seeing some BLOCK NOISE. This block noise is caused by missing information or Noise in the video signal. This will cause the picture to Pixilate (you see blocks and things start looking blurry too). This happens with poor signals. This also happens with the HD channels when they have more information than bandwidth (more data than that have space to send it...image shoving an elephant into a VolksWagon Beetle)

When Zooming picture it produces blurred or fuzzy picture

This is when zooming through your camera LCD I presume? For small screens usually banding and pixelation is common, if this happens also when the picture is zoomed in on a larger monitor like on your computer then the resolution you set for your camera is low. You can check for the camera setting and increase the resolution from for example 1024x768 to a much higher value and the fuzinnes (blur) will disappear altogether...

LCD blank & No picture taken

This appears to be a well known CCD problem, which Nikon acknowledges only for the COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ models. Nikon denies the CCD problems on the 5400 are related, even though a Google search for this problem returns numerous results which claim the same defective Sony CCD sensor was used in the 5400 as was used in the 3100, 5700, and SQ models. LCD oddly discolored but final image OK

Don't rush to the store. CCD's in video cameras have it, My Coolpix has it. It has something to do with the way information is written to or read from an LCD or CCD. And although it looks bad, it's perfectly normal. Use an early days $50,000 broadcast CCD videocamera to record a person welding and you'll get a perfectly vertical white line in your image. But as you said: It's not in the actual image of the Coolpix (although I wouldn't know if it will show up when you make a picture of someone welding).
