Canon DC220 DVD Finalization problem

Hi,
I initialized my DVD in VIDEO format. The disk does not have any more space to record. Therefore, I thought of finalizing it, now even after putting the camcorder in the charging mode, I am trying to finalize the disc but somehow the option itself is disabled.
Can somebody pls help me with this problem.

May Thanks,
Jiddvish

I cannot finalize my disc. I know how to, but the camera will not allow me to finalize it. My situation is similar to jidvishrawal's.

I am having a similar problem. I can download pictures fine, but I can't download movies to the PC. I think the problem with finalization is also the problem.

You have to plug the camera into the wall charger in order to finalize. I was having the same problem. Once finalized, I transferred the disk to the PC. You need DVD decrypter software in order to view the videos on the disk. Canon does not supply this. Canon recommended that I use one of several free downloads. They said download "DVD Decrypter" which I downloaded. Type DVD Decrypter into Google search and you will find it. It will rip it and download it to your computer. I then viewed the video with Windows Media. It works fine.

I tried EVERYTHING that was possible, including a phone call to Canon technical support. This is the solution I came up with on my own:

Using the "A/V" port on the camcorder, connect it to a device which has recording capabilities. I used a VCR which I have connected to my PC for dubbing old videos. I simply connected the camera to the input of the VCR, and connected the output of the VCR to my PC.

I realize this is not an accessible solution for everyone. I would expect, though, that you would be able to contact a media specialist - or even a high school - in your town and surrender a few dollars to have them do the transfer.

I did learn something else - a new camera needs to be purchased. This was completely unnecessary, and I am done wasting my money on this camera!

Until you Finalize the disk it will be unreadable on the other devices. In order to finalize the disk you must have the power cord plugged in to the Camera. Then finalize will be an option on the menue. So no one does it on accident. After it is finalized you will be able to open it up on the computer or on most DVD players.I have the dame camera, I love it

Cant transfer footage from Canon DC201 onto computer (and eventually internet) Do I need specialist software to take video from DVD to computer?

You don't need specialist software to take video from DVD to computer.

One of two things has gone wrong
1. Your PC cannot read the -R DVD format, or, more likely
2. You have not finalised the disk.

You must finalise the disk in the camcorder before putting it in the PC. To finalise the disk you must have the power adapter connected to the camera, plugged into a wall socket and turned on. Then go to the main menu, select 'disk operations' and you'll see an option to finalise disk. Don't move or shake the camera whilst the finalising step is underway.

Once finalising is complete, put the disk into the PC.
