Two windows vista in my PC

By accident I installed two times windows vista in my PC. How can I uninstall one of them?

My PC has two partitions C and D. The partition D is named RECOVERY (D). In D apparently resides the duplicate Windows Vista installation. Isnt any danger formatting D? This RECOVERY disk contains the following subdirectories

    Dell

    PerfLogs

    Program Files

    Program Data

    Sources

    Tools

    Users

    Windows

If I Format the RECOVERY disk I will lose those subdirectories.

Thanks for your help and advice

Hi lira,

Assuming that C: is the designated system drive, format F: to remove the
installation. Then, run msconfig and on the boot tab delete the entry that
it used to load the duplicate and/or 64-bit installation.

Hi jorge, back up the recovery files to a data cd. confirm that files were copied and you should be all right. If they already exist on the recovery cd then you covered two ways. And, yes when format hdd you will lose everything, so make sure you have copies of the file/files you want to keep i.e. photos, documents etc...

1
  • Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel."
  • 2 Double-click the "Add or Remove Programs" icon. This icon is labeled "Programs and Features" in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
  • 3 Single-click the "Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003" item in the list of installed programs.
  • 4 Click the "Remove" button. If you use Windows Vista or Windows 7, click the "Uninstall" button near the top of the window instead.
  • 5 Click "Yes" when prompted to confirm your choice by Windows. The uninstallation process starts immediately.
  • or try some uninstaller tool .

Ever since upgrading to Internet Explorer 8, I find that I cannot print emails, open up many attachments, and retrieve other information. For example, if I click on a link, I get the following message:...

Ther are known conflicts with Vista and IE8 - particularly with Vista 64-bit.

I would suggest uninstalling IE8 and reinstalling IE7 or using an alternative browser such as "slimbrowser" (excellent program) or similar.

IE8 can be uninstall by using Add or Remove Programs module in Windows XP, but in Windows Vista, Windows Internet Explorer 8 is not considered to be a ‘program’. Instead, IE8 is categorizing as an ‘update’. Thus, users will not be able to find Windows Internet Explorer 8 in “Programs and Features” of Windows Vista.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, go to Control Panel, and click on Uninstall Programs link or Programs and Features icon. Then on Tasks pane on the left, click on View installed updates link. Locate and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 in the list of installed updates, and then click on Uninstall button. Click on Yes when asked that are you sure want to uninstall the update.

If there is no option of IE8 been found on “Programs and Features” or “Add or Remove Programs” dialog box, or uninstallation of Internet Explorer 8 is unclean (causing error message such as setup cannot continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer has been detected on this computer when trying to downgrade to IE7), try to manually run the spuninst.exe.
To do so, go to C:\WINDOWS\ie8\spuninst\ folder (your drive letter may be different), and run spuninst.exe.

Restart the computer after uninstallation completed.

    Hope that helps :)

My laptop turns on but then I get a blank screen.

Put in your windows vista CD and boot the PC. It will boot from the CD and you should be able to select a recovery/repair option. Otherwise I believe you can reinstall windows without loosing your data.

You really should backup your data and do a clean install of Vista.
