Question about Computers & Internet

Monitor black i moved my desktop from one room to another. It was working fine! i plugged it into an old Gateway monitor that was on the desk that has worked before just fine with it...but kept getting the message, monitor fine, check connections. i have checked and rechecked...the all good...no luck. so i tried bringing in the monitor that it had just been connected to in the other room, again no luck...the screen makes the sound that it is coming on, but no pic, then it seems to go on standby...the light goes from steady to blinking. when I unplug it from the computer i get the no connection check signal cable message. So I tried plugging this monitor into my laptop, again just black. i can't find any dials anywhere to adjust the color. I hit the menu button (this second monitor is a dell) and nothing happens. both of these monitors were working fine just before the move, so wasn't the computer. I didn't drop it, i was gentle with it. what should i try next???

Try looking at the Monitors Plug, Look directly into the Plug, you should see 15 small pins inside the plug.

Sometimes one or two of these pins get bent over and no longer makes contact. If you do see a pin than is not pointing straight out like the reset, the best thing to do is to use a small pair of needle nose pliers to gently straighten the pin. Be very careful becouse once a pin is bent it can break easily.

I have a desk top gateway 2 plus years old always ran good. it froze and when i reboot i see welcome then goes black. monitor on light is lit. what can it be?

Windows has crashed severely and it was corrupted. Try to see if you can boot in Safe Mode and recover your files - if you can't you will have to use an Linux Live-CD like
http://www.mandriva.com/en/downloads/one/
After that just reinstall Windows - it will be way easier and faster than to try to determine what caused the crash and how to fix it.

Hello..just moved my desk top to new desk..everything is fine..but mouse won t work..while it was unplugged i cleaned keyboard..monitor with soft cloth..can u tell me why my mouse won t work

IF it's a serial mouse (meaning green round connector) it's probably not plugged in correctly. Now these are not plug and play so you need to reboot your system in order for it to work. Try that.

I have a 2-wire modem but the net will not work while plugged into a phone jack in another room. It does work when I move my desk top and connect to the jack, which is a PAIN. What do I need to do?

Not quite sure I understand this. Your modem (do you mean modem as in dial-up or do you mean ADSL router as in broadband?) works in one room but not in another. But your desktop works when plugged into the same jack!
please confirm that you are using broadband and not dial-up as the above makes no sense. Broadband is tied to a specific phone line & number. Dial-up works on any phone line.

Unhooked and moved my computer to another part of my room and the monitor now comes on with the power saver display and button is blue, then power saver display goes off and button turns yellos light and...

Sounds as if your monitor is not receiving a signal from your video card. In all likelihood, the video card came unseated during the move. Open the case and re-seat the video card, that should do the trick.

Write back if that does not solve the problem.

CRT works but LCD doesnt

You may need a driver for your PC as lcd differs from crt. They have a different signal input so update the video card drivers and you should be good to go.

Gateway 3522GZ display

Some searching on forums convinced me the inverter had failed. Picked one up for $65, removed the frame around the screen, removed the mounting screw for the inverter, and unplugged both ends of the old and plugged in the new. Put it back togeher and fired it up, bright again. Key here was that a remote monitor still worked which meant video card was OK. The lamp could have been bad, but apparently the life of lamps is pretty decent.
