Question about Onkyo Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

I have the Onkyo 706 with remote RC-717M. My remote just suddenly started to malfunction. The volume up is turning it down and vice versa. The power button to shut the receiver off is doing the function of the display button. The power button is also not powering off my rogers PVR either, but all the other PVR functions work. All the other remote functions work as well. So its basically effectinh the master volume and on/standby power button. Any advice? Also while im asking, I have never been able to use my audessy mic to calibrate my speakers. It always shows a speaker error. I bought this receiver the first day it came out and have notice its a common problem. Is this easy to resolve? Thanks

Have you tried resetting the remote? According to the manual (page 101), press and hold the RECEIVER button, press the AUDIO button, wait approx 3 sec. until RECEIVER highlights and finally press RECEIVER again. Of course if you've programmed a remote control code for your PVR in the RC-717M, you'll have to do it again.

Can you use an Onkyo RC-771M remote control to operate Onkyo receiver TX-SR502 ?

Unfortunately, the RC-771M remote doesn't control the TX-SR502. It will only work with these Onkyo models: TX-NR1008 and TX-NR808. The RC-567M is the one for the TX-SR502; replacement remotes that are exact replacements are still available from various places including Amazon.com .

Since the TX-SR502 was released in ~2004, that replacement remote probably won't control other devices that were released in 2004 or later. Onkyo changed its IR code programming before the TX-NR1008 was released in ~2010 and the RC-771M can't communicate with the older receiver. The manuals for the receivers listed above are still available from Onkyo on the product page under the Downloads tab.

I wish that I had better news for you.

How to reset RC-569M remote controller to factory defaults.

Not sure if it's the same, but for the Onkyo RC-799M controller the reset sequence is:

To reset the remote controller to its factory defaults,
while holding down RECEIVER, press and hold down
HOME until the remote indicator lights (about 3
seconds). Within 30 seconds, press RECEIVER
again.

How do I program an AT&T u-verse remote to an ONKYO RC-866M remote

The RC-866M is the remote. What you need to do is add the codes for your Onkyo receiver into the ATT remote. There are 4 or 5 different Uverse remotes, but most can be reprogrammed by pressing the 'Menu' and 'OK' button together. First add your Onkyo codes to the ATT remote as an 'aux' device. After that is working, you can control the power and volume by adding the 'aux' device (Onkyo) to the power and volume buttons on the uverse remote.

These are all the different Onkyo Receiver codes:
Onkyo: 5002, 5018, 5073, 5074, 5075, 5076, 5077, 5078, 5079, 5080, 5081, 5082, 5084, 5085, 5086, 5087, 5130, 5131, 5140

This is how to reprogram the S10 style of Uverse remote:

Remote will not turn up volume

If you are using your Onkyo remote to adjust volume of your TV, it may not be able to because the TV volume adjustment is in "steps" rather than continuous.

Onkyo remote won't control Samsung components.

I got an Onkyo RC-717M remote control. It is the remote that comes with the Onkyo TX-SR706 receiver. It is a learning remote. When i entered the cde for the Samsung Blu-Ray it did the same thing as the other remotes I got from Onkyo, the pause, next / previous track buttons wouldn't work for the Samsung BD-P3600. I used the learning function of the new remote and programmed it to work. It works ok now but it sure was a hassle to get it done. In fairness i should have called Onkyo support but their support hours don't match my schedule.
