Check your grounds, you may have a bad ground connection behind the radio in the harness or your marine battery is having a ground issue, check that out first if that checks out ok then check out your speaker connections and make sure that they are wired ok. My experience with speaker thumps and pops has to do with ground.

my initial reply was...On the function button you may need to depress it for 3 seconds to activate base, treble, balance etc But
then I found this, "Rotary Volume Control: The CD receiver uses a 7-way rotary volume control that increases and decreases the volume of the stereo from 0 to 35. The rotary knob also controls other audio settings such as Balance, Fader, Bass, Mid, Treble and preset EQ settings. In addition, the rotary knob allows you to scroll through and select your music tracks when the Music Search function is activated. Cheers, this should help ya.

You either have a bad ground from your amp to the vehicle or a problem with the amp. Where is the amp grounded? Do not ground an amp to a seat bolt or side panel on any vehicle. The weld points on the car itself cause issue with ground. Take the ground wire directly thru the bottom panel (floor) Check befor you drill! don't hit a wire/fuel line, etc. That will give you a solid ground. Keep your ground wire length to a minimum. 18" or less, and use the same gauge wire for ground as you do for power. Hope this helps
