I had the same problem. Luckily, I found the "Sony Fan Control Driver" here:

http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-download.pl?template=EN&upd_id=170&os_id=6,7&mdl=PCVRX450

Runs nice and quiet now!

I want to upgrade the mother board in my Vaio PCV-RZ44G Desktop so that I can run Windows 8. What board forms are compatible and is an Intel I3 or I5 CPU better?

You would be better off applying the money to a new computer. You are opening "Pandora's Box" . You will end up with a old case with ALL new components. That may or may not work, A.K.A., "pain and heartache".

Did you reformat the entire hard drive when you installed Vista? If you formatted the recovery partition you won't be able to go back without a Xp installation disc.

I need to install better processor for sony vaio pcv-rx741

http://www.price.ro/specificatii_amd_athlon_xp_1800+_1.53_ghz_80.htm
This is the CPU you have inside from the manufacturer..It is a rather slow one ..It is an AMD model ..with 1.53 G speed and what it is matter to you it is on a socket A type ..
What you need to do is to get another cpu on same socket with more speed ..and also a larger catch memory ..(it is important for to run smoother and faster .
I don't think you will find any cpu on this socket larger than 2.2 G ..buit it is an improvement if you want to speed it up a little ..
The ram memory should be upgraded too ..and will support up to 2x 512 DDr1 on pc 2100 ..This will allow you to install more things and will even run windows xp if you get 1 G of ram on it ..but not very fast ..
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K7/AMD-Athlon%20XP%203200+%20-%20AXDA3200DKV4E.html
here is a list with the fastest cpu on this socket..
To buy one ..I think you can ask to local computer store..usually they can guide you ..but look at the price too ..cause like it is said on the site I linked..there are other less expensive with almost similar performances ..

Adam,

The sony VAIO Pcv-j200 only runs with Windows 2000, windows Me and windows xp. The current operating system Vista on your computer right now will work but some of the features of it may not. The link below shows all the drivers for your unit for diffent operating systems (not vista). What you can try to do is to download the audio driver for windows xp

Computer turns on, but does not boot to XP

Generally, fans are controlled by heat readings...something to check is the operating temperature that is shown in your BIOS when you boot up...(access your BIOS by tapping on the delete key, or F2 key while booting)..if it goes over 70C real quick then there is a CPU heat dissipation problem, which would cause the fan to run like this i think that it is more of an issue that your CPU died...has your machine taken any kind of hit or fall that might have loosened things?...or perhaps the heat sink compound between the heatsink and CPU failed.....
but it also could be a dead MB

check whether your SMPS fan is running the back side of the cabinetand also the cpu fan if you can open the system case. if the both fan is running fine then rmove the CMOS battery and start the computer after 2 or 3 sec the cpu fan will stop that means BIOS is cleared reinsert the battery and boot the system go to BIOS and go to load default setting and enter(press DEL or f2 to enter BIOS) after that press f8 and go to safe mode (not work with win98)it will take some time, after getting in to the OS scan your computer for virus with best and latest updated ANTI VIRUS. let me know whether it is working ot not. if not working kindly let me know what the exact problem is write all the process you follow to start your PC reply me soon
