Question about Projection Televisions

I turn on the set, it tries to turn on the lamp, but gives up after several attempts and several seconds. Finally it ends up with three blinking lights. This after I replaced color wheel. Already replaced lamp but with same result, so I,m thinking that I didn't get something back correctly during the color wheel swap. What could I have done during color wheel change that results in this condition? Seems unlikey that lamp or ballast coincidently went bad, as they worked fine before I did the color wheel.

jango's web instruction pre-date my model. I did use them as reference though. I thought I got everything back as it was, but now this problem. I'm looking for how this problem relates to the steps taken in replacement of color wheel, as I don't think I have another faulty component.

What expert knows the relation between the color wheel replacement process and the failure to turn on the lamp / picture. I get sound and you can hear the set click as it attempts to start the lamp.

findmeifucan -- I've tried switch in both positions, but same result. Are you saying that the ballast failed because I unplugged the tv to change the wheel? Are you ruling out an error in the color wheel changing process? Are the lamp and ballast ONLY possible causes? Just seems too coincidental that one of these would fail when color wheel replaced. I'm trying to save myself some money, not replace parts until I finally end up going to a repair shop.

knowing the color wheel was the trigger for lamp was just the piece of info I needed. I removed the new color wheel and re-installed, making sure it seated properly and all the connections were in place. What do you know... worked like a charm, sound AND picture.

P.S. if anyone's still following jango's process for color wheel replacement on later models, it will lead you to way more work than necessary. The first wheel replacement took me almost 2 hours. The second took me less than 15 minutes. I think Samsung learned how to make this component easier to get to. Thanks to all you who shared your knowledge, and jango too or I would not have had the confidence to undertake this. RobC

If the lamp is working, most likely it’s another failed part. Ballast or color wheel, color wheel is new this could the problem with ballast in the tv.........

Startup inmost dlp is dependent on the startup of the color wheel reaching speed. in most set the lamp doesnt fire until reaches speed. it just might be possible that your color wheel is faulty.. or as we called it at the shop "new defective" it "sounds" like other problems though. ussally the lamp will not strike until the wheel reaches speed.. also the lamp can still be at fault

The ballast is the part that connects to the actual bulb. Samsung TV's
ballasts seem to fail frequently due to power outages in the standard
    household.

The 3 blinking lights can either be Bad Bulb or Bad Balast for the bulb.Open your lamp door and make sure the switch is in the down position, not the up position .

I guess no one has answered your question after 21 days. I wish I could, I have a similar but slightly different problem. Mine was slow to come on and made whining or whistling sound when first turned on or off. It sounds like incoming ordinance. It starts out high pitched and gets continually lower pitched. It took a while for the lamp to come on. I thought we had both a lamp going out and a color wheel issue. I replaced the lamp which made it a slightly brighter but not much else different. The next day it wouldn't come on at all. It cycled through several times for a few minutes and ended up with the three blinking lights. You turn it off and it does the same thing, neither turning off or on. I put the previous lamp back in and it made no difference. Since it has been 21 days for you I guess there is no response on this forum.

Hi,
If red light blinks 3 times when tv refuse to power up then check lamp cover that was removed to replace lamp, make sure lamp cover is fixed in its position securely and screw is tight.
Let me know how many times red light is blinking after three second long pause IF it is not blinking 3 times.
Thanks.

Your lamp door switch or lamp switch (there are 2) may not be fully engaged or one may have failed. Try seating the lamp again, you may not have it fully installed.

I am posting here because I read the response the other person gave you.

Are you saying the set does not turn on and the red light blinks a sequence of three red blinks several times?

Confirm actual model number---3 red blinks is an error code---Get me Model number (KF50WE610?) and I will try to give you a simple answer---If it is what I think it is---3 blinks may have a easy repair that anyone can do.

Toshiba 52HM84 DLP TV with new bulb but the lights keep blinking

They exact way the lights blink are telling you what the failure is. If the tv is firing the lamp and the lamp is bad, you will hear a buzz sound for about 1 second. The tv tries 8 times before it gives up and spits out the lamp error. Check the user manual for led diagnostics. If you put in a new lamp but still have issues, you've likely got a bad ballast (most common on this model) or colorwheel (less common). Both are part of the optical block (light engine) and I don't believe they're available as individual components from toshiba.

Samsung 46" DLP

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and
3 LEDs in the front blinking.

Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in.

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.

Problems turning my tv on, need to try several times

I just recently had the same problem and finally my set would no longer turn on. I replaced the projector lamp and now my set works. However, when it first comes on, it only stays on for about 2 minutes and then goes off. After another minute, it comes back on and works fine from then on. I don't believe this double power up can be any good for the lamp, but I don't know if the problem is the lamp or the set. These lamps run on about 65 volts, but require a short blast from 5000 volt source to fire up. At $200.00 a lamp, I don't want to go buy another!
