Question about Zenith R56W28 56" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Have a Zenith model #Z56296D8 that recently the picture started to get darker. Now the picture is black, but when I change channels I can hear the channels fine. (3) years ago I replaced the High Voltage Module, is this the culprit again?? The TV is in a heavy smoking environment, does this effect the module?? PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks, Steve

Your HV circuit is defective. Most likely horizontal output transistor is shorted and you may need to replace the flyback. You need to call an expert.

The picture does not seem as bright as it was

This rear projection from the model number appears to be a RCA AND not the zenith listed in your question.

If RCA the lens for the tubes may be dusty or dirty--should be cleaned once a year.

Process is simple: unplug set and remove rear cover.

Locate the three large black lens at top of chassis and either with a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on the towel clean them.

If they are dirty/dusty they will make picture look darker and duller than it once was---they are the light source for your picture.

I have a 52" zenith plasma tv and it has gone black and fades into a vague darker picture after a while.....everything is fine accept for the pic

the ICs or the capacitors on the main board of the tv which controls the picture quality of the either gone loose and needs resoldering.or it is going through its last phase so further problem can occur if it gets completely faulty.get it replaced before it gets completely avoid the further problems.

I have a 10 to 12 year old Zenith SY2772 tv. The picture is getting gradually darker and darker, so that it is very hard to see what is going on in scenes that are dark to begin with. I assume that it is...

Yes it could be other things, but to be honest, I wouldn't waste time or money on a set that old. If the picture was perfect and something else went bad, perhaps a small investment would be worth it, but with your description, I'd pass.

Time for a new set.

Zenith 44" LCD TV

The yellow spot is due to the BLUE LCD and/or lens assy cracked, reason, to much HEAT! The blue is the darkest color and hold the most heat, so it goes first, always! In some cases it’s only the lens, however most of the time LCD is damage to. Parts are available, however install and alignment is timely. Quick fix is the complete light engine, which for model# E44W46LCD is part# 3141VSN916C, which customer cost is $1,449.27, wholesale for about $1,065.21. Rebuilt, if you can find it around 850.00 to 950.00. However the rebuilt does not always look as good as factory. My advice, TRASH set. This part will fail again in about 3 to 4 years, unless you watch a lot of white video. Remember, on a black or dark picture, all three LCD are blocking 100% of the light, causing extreme heat within the light engine. It’s a bad design.

Yellow haze and no picture

sounds like you have a bad optical block, very costly but the manufacture of these is LG and they have a recall program on certain problems is this model you may want to give them a call and see if yours might be covered.
