On startup I get a windows installer message that my HP Product Assistant is needing me to insert a disk. I have had this computer for 3 years and this just started. It is interrupting downloads, etc.

You must have a HP Printer. HP Product Assistant is not a necessary program.
Go to Start > Run. Type msconfig in the run box. Click on the startup tab. See if there is an entry for HP Assistant. If there is un-check the box next to it. Click apply then OK. It will ask you to restart. Restart and see what happens.
Let me know.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Then go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. When it opens up, scroll down the list and check for HP Product Assistant. When you find it, click on the remove button.

Then this is the only way left to get rid of it.

    1. Uninstall all HP printer drivers.
    2. Download and reinstall the latest driver but reply "no" to extended capabilities during the install process.
Go to www.hp.com and download the lastest driver/software for your operating system.

Hi, I believe that the HP Product assistant software you had deleted when you formatted the hard drive... My question is did you follow the user guide manual. did you use or install a different operating system? My only suggestion is to click start click run type msconfig click ok ,click startup tab and uncheck the HP product assistant, and restart the computer. I hope this information will help you solve the problem.

HOW DO I PREVENT THE HP PRODUCT ASSISTANT DISK MESSAGE FROM POPPING UP ON MY DESKTOP CONSTANTLY THANK-YOU SINCERELY YOUR FRIEND ALICE

This is quite an easy fix. If you have the original CD for the HP printer you have installed, next time it pops up, just insert the CD let it find the software it is looking for. The message should go away.
If it does not resolve it, your other option is to download the Installer Clean-Up Utility from Microsoft and uninstall the 'Product Assistant'. But if you have the disk, the first method is easier.
