Re: cd rom not working
Try reseating the CD drive. Remove the battery and make sure the AC adaptor is not connected. Turn the laptop over and locate the locking screw. It will have a little "Pad Lock" symbol next to the screw. Once phillips screw is removed, pry the securing screw tab to push the drive from the chassis with a screwdriver. Re-insert the CD drive and fasten the screw back into the bottom of the laptop.
If you still have an issue with the CD drive, please feel free to contact me for futher diagnosis.

Turn on machine, Put the recovery cd on the cd rom drive, before it boots to windows hit the F1 to go into bios, on the startup set the cd rom the primary to boot machine on cd then follow the instructions from there..
replace the CD Rom, they are available on the net. You may pay $35-$50 and you'll be home free. You may even find an updrade i.e. DVD burner, etc. They are also very easy to replace - one screw on the bottom of laptop and just pull the CD unit out.
go into device manager and see if your drive is listed or has an exclamation point beside it.if you dont know how to open device manger go to start menu and click help and search device manager.if there is an exclamation point ! click it and it will tell you the problem.you may need to download a new driver or reinstall the old driver. the only other possibility is the drive is dead :(
Try going to the drive, in my computer ** should be named CD/DVD Or D: E: right click and press eject. Alternatively:-
if you look carefully at the dvd drive, it has a small pinhole in the front drawer. push a paper-clip sized piece of metal, or small jewellers screwdriver into the hole, this will force the drawer open.
