RCA Pearl TH1602 Frozen?

It doesnt load, all it does is show the PEARL logo when i turn it on and then it stays like that. I've tried replacing batteries, and tried putting the device into my computer but neither the Device or computer tell me it is connected to the usb port.

When I turn the pearl on it just displays the "pearl" logo. It's like the MP3 player is frozen.

Mine is also in this frozen state. If I take out the battery, put it back in, and leave it off, my computer will still recognize it through the USB port. I can load/unload songs, but when I power it back up, it goes to the frozen "pearl" screen again. This mp3 player has more problems than I care to list past that. As for support, the RCA site only lists how to install it with Vista, and I can't find any other outlet for help. Thanks RCA. Anyone who actually cares about other people out there that can help?

My solution to a Pearl TH1602-A stuck on the pearl screen:

Download the firmware upgrade from Lucy5829's solution, run it.
RCA PEARL FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD window should open.
Remove battery from Pearl, keep out.
Press PLAY and hold while plugging into USB port,
when "initializing" progress bar moves, let go off play button.

On my windows, it installed some software and asked me to reboot. After the reboot I re-ran the Pearl firmware file and about 30 seconds later the start button was now available.

Click it. However, You will loose your music on the internal storage.

I had the same problem, usually plugging it into the usb port on the pc and verifying the files on the player, then disconnecting the player will solve the problem. Other times i have to reformat the player, if you do that, you will have to put all your music back on. It's a pain, this has happened to me 4 times, I've only had this thing less than 6 months! It was inexpensive, I guess you get what you pay for, but I like having a AAA battery instead of having to remember to plug it in to the pc to recharge every 15 hrs.

I Had the same problem - just displayed the pearl logo but worked fine as a usb key. I tried reformating and put everything back and had the same problem. I updated the bios by using the easyrip software and now it works again.

SOURCE: rca pearl th1602-a with new battery will not power

When was the last time you flashed the firmware? Even if it already has the latest firmware, it sounds like it is still corrupted and need to be reflashed. It appears you already know where to find the latest firmware update based on your comments, but just in case you can download it here:

Try a firmware recover. Download the firmware update from the RCA website and install the app. Start the updater and connect the player holding the PLAY button until it gets detected.

How to Fix Your RCA Pearl TH1602 MP3 Player from Freezing at Startup

Does your RCA Pearl TH1062 MP3 player freeze on startup at the Pearl logo?

Whenever your player acts up, the best solution is to reflash/upgrade the firmware.

Download the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and follow all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

  1. start the program,
  2. remove the battery,
  3. hold the play button while plugging the RCA player into your computer's usb port,
  4. release the play button when the term "initalizing" replaces "searching",
  5. check the box that says "format data" (you can try it first without this checked, it may work and will save your music),
  6. click the start button to replace the firmware.

This solution will fix your player.
I hope that helps.

The other day I replaced my battery and my unit would not go any further than the Pearl logo. So I downloaded the firmware upgrade from http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1, and followed all the troubleshooting instructions that popup when you start the program:

You might want to leave the "format data" box unchecked to see it that works. I couldn't play aac files without formatting, but you may not have to format to fix your problem.

After I did this, my pearl started normally, and my computer recognized it again.

Frozen at the opening screen, can't be detected by the computer

Actually, the firmware software will fix your Pearl even though the computer won't detect it right now. It worked for me and I've fixed my sony phone the same way. Try grabbing the latest firmware here:
http://voxrightnow.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2243/related/1
And make sure you follow all the directions that popup, including removing the battery, holding play when you plug it in, and formatting the data area.

RCA TH1602 MP3 Player in locked

You should be able to force the Pearl into recovery mode by removing the battery, then hold down the "Play" button while inserting into USB port, after a few seconds, Windows should detect "USB Human Interface Device" (see Device Manager). Now you should be able run the firmware update. Worked for mine after it froze up one day and would not be detected as a USB device by Windows.
