Hi There,

Sorry to hear you are having a problem with your Alto printer.

A common fault is where the dye fil cassette runs out, the user is warned, but they keep clicking on 'OK' rather than opening the lid and checking the film.

To resolve this, first of all, upgrade your printer's firmware to the latest version (V4.06).
You can download this by following the link below;

Enter your printer's serial number in the QuickSearch box at the top right of the page.
You will then be offered the latest firmware version to download.

Secondy, there is a small 'O' ring drive belt for the dye film advance motor. This is behind the right-hand side panel. This belt may have either come off the pulleys, or it can sometimes double back on itself and get trapped. In either case you may need to replace it to be on the safe side.

The Magicard part number is RIO/0037/R

If you contact your local Magicard service centre they will normally stick one in the post free of charge.

Magicard Enduro+ printer error message prompt "Wrong Dye file, error 31:01, see your dealer supplier. I have original dye films.

That error can be caused by several conditions.

1. Make sure the printer driver is set properly for the ribbon type you're using. For example, if you have a MA100YMCKO ribbon, make sure the driver is set for it, rather than the MA1000K or MA250YMCKOK ribbon. NOTE - you must have Windows admin privileges to be able to adjust driver settings.

2. Make sure you're using a compatible ribbon type. Magicard makes many ribbon types, and they're not always compatible across all printers. Make sure the ribbon you have IS specified for the Enduro+ printer.

3. Update your firmware. All ribbons contain an RFID tag that informs the printer of the ribbon type, print-count, manufacturing site, lot-number, etc. If you have old firmware, it may not properly recognize the ribbon, resulting in this error condition.

4. Try an alternate ribbon. On very rare occasion, one of the ribbon RFID tags is missing or corrupted. The likelihood of 2 separate ribbons having the same issue is very small.

5. The printer may have a bad RFID-tag reader/sensor, which would have to be replaced by an authorized service center.

Hello! I am writting this message regarding with my magiicard opera 100 that does not work. I am using it in school office right now to make student ID cards, however it is not working. The problem is that...

From your description, there are only a few possible causes:

1. The ribbon you have is not the correct one for your printer model, or is not a genuine Magicard ribbon. Where did you purchase?

2. The printer has old "firmware" that doesn't recognize new ribbon RFID tag info. (firmware is an internal program on the printer that should be periodically updated - free download from Magicard web-site: Magicard ID Card Printers Identity Solutions ).

3. The ribbon-sensor has failed (printer cannot see / sense the ribbon's presence).

The printer ribbon keeps breaking and when it does

The printer needs to be cleaned and the cleaning roller (the cylinder thingy that comes wrapped) may need to replaced. You will know if it needs to be replaced if it looks dirty.

My magicard alto prints fine except the color quality is not very great. when i use the color ribbon and print black letters with it the letters come out gray and not black and it has a problem making the...

The printer driver must be set to print text with the K resin panel.
If the text is part of a bitmap image and not a true-type font then it will print from the coloured panels and be dark grey.
To create the correct green on the card you need to change the RGB values so it prints correctly but look wrong on the badge design program. Even different printers print the same colour differently.

Getting it ready for printing

Hi There,

There is no need to set the ribbon tight. This will be re-initialised each time the lid is closed or the printer boots from being switched on.

The error message and number is important. Depending on which driver you have installed, you may not see the error message on the status monitor. However you need to know what the error is, and most importantly, the error code (04:??).

To see what the error is follow these instructions;

Switch on the printer and let it try to initialise. When it errors and the Red LED is flashing,
Download and install the Magicard Support Utility (V3.14).
You can get this here;

Run the Magicard Support Utility. Select 'USB' for the comms port. When the other tabs open up, select 'Query Printer'. Click the 'Query' button. The left-hand pane will display the result of the query.
About a third of the way down is the 'Last Error Reported' line.

What is the last reported error (and crucially the error number)?

From this I should be able to tell you what to check.

Also, have a look at the following;

Enter your printer's serial number in the QuickSearch box.
You will see the printer's current warranty status as well as all the latest driver / firmware downloads and more.

Magicard will still offer you lots of support whether the printer is in or out of warranty.
