Question about Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200 Digital Camera

10 Answers

No Power After flying on a recent trip and having my camera x-rayed it acted strange. When I turned it on it asked me on screen if I would like to update the software. I selected the no option, then NO IMAGE appeared on the screen. I turned it off and back on again with the same results, update question then no image. I did this again and answered yes to the update question and it began the updating process as indicated on the screen by a bar but never made it past 50%. This went on for 5 minutes and I could not stop the update by pushing the on/off button so I removed the battery. BIG mistake. I have not been able to turn the camera on since then. Do I need to do a software reboot or something else? Help.

The updating process started when I initially turned the camera on.

It might also be a battery issue. do you have a back up battery you might be able to try? I had an issue like that with my Nikon since it was a certain recalls battery manufacturing date. I purchased a new one and also a new OEM one to have two on hand. It turned back on, and I gave it a firm ware upgrade by connecting onto the website via usb hub.

Let me know how that works out for you. Thank you for your time and I'm eager to hear back on how things work out for you.

Also, some film camera's do that not typically digital. It messes with the speed settings some times.

Here is also a blurb found on dpreviews.com:
X-ray scanners digital film safe The International Imaging Industry Association (i3a) has issued a press release which details tests it carried out in conjunction with SanDisk and the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to discover the effect of airport X-ray scanners on digital film (flash storage). The results showed that none of these such scanners, nor walk-through or hand-held metal detectors had any effect on the content of flash storage. (17:00 GMT)

Try first removing the battery from the camera for 12 hours then before you put the battery back in make sure its fully charge or better if you can try a new battery for this. Then after that connect the camera to your computer and if you can download the software for the camera that will be good and run it to your computer..........

Taking it to the repair shop is much advisable as the device is shifting its problem from 1 to another.such as first it was software update problem.then running properly till 50% then just going off after and not comming ON. it could be internal circuit error in the device.as the repair shop will have all the necessary parts to replace and check for what and where the exact problem lies.

thanks.

You could try this but its not guaranteed. Download the latest firmware to your camera. Have it ready.

Connect your camera to your PC and power the camera on. Now run the firmware update you've downloaded. When there are accompanying instructions with the download follow those carefully to apply the update.

However, there may be a good chance you've wiped out the factory installed Read Only Memory. This ROM is critical for the camera to bootup and perhaps have a firmware update applied. In the long run you could take it to a professionals camera store. You can easily find them in the Yellow Pages or you already know of one. These companies are normally authorized sellers and may be able to get your camera to bootup again.

Best of Luck with this one, its tough to be in your position so try not to over react Things happen and we call them mistakes and/or accidents. This can be resolved but you won't be able to use your camera for awhile unless connecting to your PC and apply the firmware update works for you.

In any case, would you keep us/me informed of your results.

Best of regards,
Worldvet

If you interrupt the update processor, the camera will be irreparably damaged, you need to take it to a repair shop.

You need top send the camera back to factory, the eeprom containing the firmware must be re-flashed.

Try restarting the update process, if you succeed by chance in completing the update, then the camera will be fine, if not , you need to send it for repair, in this case check here for contact: KONICA MINOLTA Global

I want you to polish the terminals of you camera with a soft cloth If the
terminals are covered with oil or dust this may cause poor contact and
the battery may not be able to supply the power to the camera.

One more thing you can do is once try switching over to 2500 mAh Nickel
Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries. you will see a difference.Digital
cameras with zoom lens need more power than what can be supplied by
    ordinary batteries..

IF you still face the problem then it is circuit board or the inner element not functioning properly and you will need to get this repaired.

If you're flying in the US, ask for hand inspection. If you're in another country, ask for hand inspection anyway: it can't hurt to ask.

I want to ask a friend to bring a few packs of Instax film from the US for me and I want to know how the x ray machines might affect the undeveloped film. My friend would bring them here to me in Mexico...

Films 800 and higher (800, 1600, 3200 iso), should not go thru the x-ray. I recently took a lot of films on holidays in the US, the security staff were very helpful and understanding. I put my high iso films and instax in a clear ziplock bag, and asked for hand inspection, they do a swab to check for whatever they are screening for. The x-ray machine has a sign that says films under 800 are OK in the machine, that means 400, 200, 100 etc. not 800.

There is a risk if you put it in the checked baggage, as sometimes this is x-rayed, and that's supposed to be even stronger x-ray.

So, take your film in a clear ziplock to the security people and ask for hand inspection due to 800 iso. Couple of times I was asked extra questions, they asked to see the camera, I explained it's big in Japan. Another time they asked me to open the package, opening the cardboard package, and even opening the silver wrapper is OK because the film is still safe inside it's black plastic cartridge.

Disc loading mechanism fault. Not loads properly. Might be of the fault of any broken gear wheel, of a loose loading belt or so. Contact any service technician to get this set repaired.

Flat screen monitor functioning strangely

Sounds like there maybe bad caps on the power board in the LCD. Try a different monitor on your computer and if the known working monitor comes on with the computer and behaves properly then you know its a problem with your original monitor. If the known working monitor acts strange as well then you know its a problem with the video card. Let me know what happens.
