HI,
Try the following procedure :
Power on the system, without waiting for anything to come on the screen, tap on the F2 key on the keyboard 4 to 5 times.

If the above key doesnot work try the Del or delete key on the keyboard.

Tapping the F12 key on the keyboard after powering the system can give you the one time boot menu

Thanks
Proton

On compaqs the first screen usually will allow you to choose a boot device by pressing f11 you should then be able select the boot device.

this a black screen with icons at the bottom representing hdd floppy CD and network boot you move the cursor to select the appropriate boot device

Ideapad Z560 neither accessing BIOS setup or is starting normally

Your bios seems corrupted. You will probably need to reflash from a thumb drive which is bootable. The F2 should get you to booting screen to access the thumb drive to boot from to flash the bios.

Vista will not load from CD

Your computer is probably set to boot to the Hard drive BEFORE the CD rom in the BIOS. Research how to access the "system configuration" or BIOS when your computer first turns on. Search through the BIOS menus and see if there's a place to set the "Boot Order". Change the boot order to boot to the CD Rom before the Hard drive.

Hi, I need to access the BIOS to boot from CD pear. I pressed F12 and ESC, and Ctrl-F1, alt-F1. It does not work. How I can access the CD to recover the BOOT? Thanks, Nacho

Hello,

Have you tried pressing DELETE? Press the delete button and it will direct you to BIOS. You can then change the boot sequence of your computer so that you can boot to the cd.

Thank you for using fixya,

I cannot boot from the cd rom to do a fresh install of windows xp onto the laptop (Toshiba Satellite 1805-S274 PC Notebook)

Most computers need to have the boot order reset in the Bios to enable booting from cd. The following should be the correct way to access the Bios setup for this model.

Starting with the system powered off (not in sleep/suspend or hibernate mode)-Start with the system powered off. Press the power button and then immediately press and hold the Esc key while the system runs the POST (Power On Self Test). When the POST finishes, a prompt will appear telling you to press the F1 key to enter BIOS Setup. At that time, press the F1 key to access the BIOS Setup program.

Once in the Bios setup, change the boot order to boot first from cd, then save changes and exit. You should then be able to run the cd install.

Why the massage "bootmgr missing" while starting my computer? Is it the BIOS or HD problem? My BIOS Version is 1.0E-3181-8A20/37980800

Boot Manager

A boot loader, also called a boot manager, is a small program that places the operating system (OS) of a computer into memory. When a computer is powered-up or restarted, the basic input/output system (BIOS) performs some initial tests, and then transfers control to the Master Boot Record (MBR) where the boot loader resides. Most new computers are shipped with boot loaders for some version of Microsoft Windows or the Mac OS. If a computer is to be used with Linux, a special boot loader must be installed. It also allows multiple operating systems to be booted from the same computer.

This file contains the information where the system file is located.

The message you are encountering could be due to corrupt MBR or Corrupt hard drive.

Usually CHKDSK command fix this problem but as you can boot the system you will bot be able to run the command.

Download "Hiren's Boot CD" using the link below

http://hirens.longcomputerservices.com/Hirens.BootCD.10.1.zip

extract the downloaded file with winzip or winrar and burn it in a CD.

now boot the system using that CD (set your BIOS to boot from CD-DVD ROM).

you will have access to repair tools for Hard drive, MBR fix etc etc.i recommend you fgo for CHKDSK command

it will solve your problem.

Acer Aspire 3610 laptop - Windows XP error

on a friend's Windows 98 SE or Windows ME computer, create a floppy "Startup disk". Insert in your pc floppy drive and turn on. If floppy drive was not accessed, then get to BIOS and ensure "Boot from floppy drive" is set prior to "boot from hard drive". Once at first screen, select "Boot with CD-ROM driver". Insert CD-ROM and initiate entire re-install of Windows. Windows may do some self-restarting. At first restart do this: get to BIOS and ensure "Boot from hard drive" is set prior to "boot from floppy drive".
