Benq FP71G LCD Monitor - Can't keep POWER ON / Button Problem?

Monitor: Benq FP71G LCD

The monitor appears physically fine but when i go to power it on, it turns on (the green light appears) but after half a second the monitor powers itself off. Nothing is ever displayed on the monitor no doubt because there is no time for it to appear.

Any ideas what is going on? All i've done is switch the power cable and VGA cable but still the same affect. I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2 and have tried the monitor on different PCs and have tried it unattached to a PC.

Mine has the same sort of problem. The BenQ splash screen displays very briefly then it powers off. Checked for dry/bad joints and all is OK. What next ?

Same problem here, turn on and sometimes works for few minutes/hours, but most of the time, it LCD will go black but power button stay green. Then cycling the power bring it back for few seconds and it goes black again.

Very rarely I manage to keep it on for longer.

Hello, the same problem. I bought my monitor before 2,5 years. The problem occured 2 weeks ago an the monitor worked sometimes. Now I see only "BENQ" with the blue screen for 2 second. I checked all capacitors in the "left" board. If i cut the high-voltage part the monitor keeps powered "ON" the LED is lightening, but of course no image on the screen.

Same issue, once you turn the power on the green LED comes on but screen is black or it will power up very briefly and then go black.

  • Anonymous Jan 13, 2009

mine will let you use it for a while and then turns itself off, the green light goes out and you have to turn it on again, only to get a short while before it turns itself off again

    Has anyone fixed this?

Does anyone know a price or timeframe?

I solved the problem 4 times, with SC5707. It worked only two days. After 2 days I replaced SC5707 again and so 4 times. At least Isoldered most of all high voltage pins an it works now about 2 weeks! Thanks! SC5707 also!

I had the same problem and found that Q808, Q809 and Q805 had failed and which if left long enough can also cause PF801 to fail. I also replaced all of the electrolytic capacitors during the rebuild as it was only a few dollars to do so.

Although in my case Q815, Q816 and Q812 were fine I suspect that they may also fail in time.

Here are the parts which should be available at most electronic stores or online.

Q808 & Q809 - 2SC5707
Q805 - IRFU9024N
PF801 - 3 AMP PICO FUSE

This problem is caused by the computer changing display modes so often during boot-up. This causes the backlight inverter to rapidly switch on and off. This eventually causes one or more of the 2SC5707 transistors to short. Changing the shorted ones doesn't fixthe problem unless you prevent it from seeing all the mode changes during POST. Many BIOS setups have an option to hide most of this behaviour. That might be enough. Otherwise, a solution is to leave the monitor turned off until the desktop appears.

I have a BenQ FP71G+ monitor and the auto adjust message pops up frequently and the screen adjusts itself.

radioactivet, A qualified technician will need to investigate the units "switch-mode-power-supply" for typical "faults" and locate the faulty (bad) component(s) that ma be causing monitor to act this way. "Noise" on the +5 volt DC rail going to the vga/lcd interface (processor) may be why display is acting "strange" with uncalled for pop-up's appearing!! That's the very first place I would investigate when dealing with ANY COLD-CATHODE-FLUORESCENT-LAMP, BACK-LIT LCD DISPLAY. 12fixlouie

Benq 567s lcd monitor does not power up. Switch led blinks but goes dead. Tried replacing capacitor 450v 82uf with 400v 100 uf but did not work. please help.

That cap is for the Primary power supply switching circuits. How is the DC secondary side, no blown fuse, shorted transistors in the inverter circuits? Pictures will help, budmrtn@aol.com

Hello

Parts (probably capacitors) in the monitor power supply are failing. My company repairs these for an average of $50.00 + parts + shipping or take it to a local repairman.

Benq screen shuts down when pc is plugged in

If it's a 71g and not 71g+ resolder transistors 2sc5707 on invertor board along with grey condensers and inverter transformer. This should solve the problem if it was display shutting off with power led remaining on.Otherwise check power section.

Benq FP71G+S NOt starting.

Hello
I have had this problem twice once at my school and once with my BenQ FP71G Monitor. At my school the monitor ( HP ) just stopped working and smelt like burnt popcorn.(though is think this is due to some kids chucking a soccer(football) ball at it! With my BenQ it has the same problem though i nownthink it is because of the monitor has been on for excessive hours ( 3-4 ) and just shut down because of overheating. I will see in a couple of hours if it works !

Benq monitor powers off immediately

Try sending monitor back as most Benq monitors come with at least a two years silver warranty. Benq are very helpful and their repairers are quick and polite. You will find their no.s on their website www.benq.com my monitor was experiencing the same and for $10 postage and a one week wait is repaired and working fine.
