Question about ASUS A8N-E Motherboard

1 Answer

Nvidia chipset for A8N-E rev 1005

I have just had a virus wipe out my whole HDD and am gradually getting back to some assemblence of order.

However I am unable to download the Nvidia chispet for the motherboard, which would probably explain why the onboard LAN no longer works. I have gone to the Asus site but it is a 'make disk file' but problem being I don't have a floppy drive. Any help would be greatly recieved !

I have a burnt out fan chip and was told that I need to replace my mother board - it is an asus a8n-e where can I buy one

There is a problem with the Southbridge chipset. The nForce4 chipset over heats.
Asus has not made a better cooler for the nForce4 Southbridge chipset.
(It does not cool the chipset as it should).
You will have the same trouble with a new A8N-E MB.
Sooner or later if you do not change the chipset cooler with a stronger fan/heatsink assembly like any of the ones listed on the next link, the chipset will burn up.

I am trying to find a lan driver for my Asus A8N-VM CSM rev 1.01 I dont know why this board is proving so difficult to find but it is.

The NIC (LAN) driver IS on the ASUS support page. IT is just not labeled as the NIC LAN driver.

It is labeled as the "NVIDIA nForce 430/410 Chipset SATA/RAID Driver Disk" under the "Utilities" folder.

I just installed this myself and it works great now.

Enjoy... And pay the favor forward some day.

Cheers.

Asus a8n sli premium

From the Asus support site.

If you installed total 4GB memory, the system will detect less than 4GB of total memory because of address space allocation for other critical functions, such as:

- System BIOS (including motherboard, add-on cards, etc..)
- Motherboards resources
- Memory mapped I/O
- configuration for AGP/PCI-Ex/PCI
- Other memory allocations for PCI devices

Different onboard devices and different add-on cards (devices) will result of different total memory size.
e.g. more PCI cards installed will require more memory resources, resulting of less memory free for other uses.

On a SLI system, since PCI-Ex graphic cards will occupy around 256MB, another 256MB will be occupied after you install a 2nd PCI-Ex graphic card. Hence, 2.75GB memory left only if two SLI cards installed on A8N-SLI Premium while 3.0GB memory left with one graphic card without other add-on devices.

This limitation applies to most chipsets & Microsoft Windows 32-bit version operating systems.

If you install Windows 32-bit version operating system, we recommend that you install less than 3GB of total memory. If more than 3GB memory is required for your system, then below two conditions must be met: 1. The memory controller which supports memory swap functionality is used. Chipsets later than Intel 975X, 955X, Nvidia NF4 SLI Intel Edition, Nvidia NF4 SLI X16, and AMD K8 CPU architecture support memory swap function. 2. Windows 64-bit OS which can address more than 4GB memory.

Motherboard problem..

It sounds like the front panel wire has either come loose from the motherboard or is plugged into the wrong spot. Recheck the motherboard to see if the wires are in the right place & not loose. Hope this helps.

Installing 750GB SATA on Asus A8N-E Mobo

Hello there.

I would not update the BIOS unless you are experiencing any problems. Try installing the new hardware first and then if you do experience problems, think about upgrading the BIOS. The latest version is 1013 FYI.

The new hardware should be supported without a BIOS update, as long as you have Service Pack 2 in Windows XP or above then all your 750GB will be shown. As for the memory you should see it list the new size in the POST screen before Windows even loads, or inside Windows.

If you do have problems, then please post back and we can help.

Hope this helps.

The onboard Network card is based on the nVidia nForce 4 chipset that is also the standard Motherboard Chipset. This can be downloaded from the Asus Website.

Are you having any difficulty with the Onboard LAN or is this just an issue of getting the driver for the LAN card installation?

What causes ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe chipset fan and RAID failure

Don't bother with another ASUS chipset fan...
just get hold of a Zalman ZM-NB47J Northbridge Cooler.

i've been running one of these for a month or so because my chipset fan started to rattle, and make more noise than usual crying2.gif

i haven't had any trouble with passive cooling, maximum motherboard temp is 39C.
i run all my drives on the nvidia controller, and it's overclocked a bit too.

plus you'll enjoy the silence
