Question about Gateway 8510GZ Notebook

1 Answer

Gateway 8510gz I need to access and repair the power reciever on the mother board. I can't seem to figure out how to dissasemble the housing to access it. I've taken out all the screws but something seems to be holding it up.

most likely it is the palm rest on the top. that needs to be released with screws that are accessible through the mother board..a bit tricky, methinks.

It sounds like you either have a dead mother board or a bad power inlet. Did the machine work with the new battery while it was charged? If so, then the battery connector was good and the inlet was bad. If not, your motherboard could be dead. I've also seen where a bad battery connector would syphon off enough power to not power on the machine or charge the battery.

Gateway 8510GZ battery wouldnt charge

It is possible the DC board is separate. Also, I do agree about the nature of the problem.

Question: Will it run on AC power [no battery]?

Radio Shack carries many power capacitors. Just remember a couple of things.

1. Electrolytics have a polarity and can "POP" if installed backwards.
and
2. Always replace the same value, but you can go higher on voltage, just not lower.
EX: 47mF 50V can take a 47mF 65V but not 47mF 35V

Thanks

Ken
