I get this once every six months or so. I went to the soundmax site and downloaded brand new drivers and keep them in a folder on my laoptop. Then, when some MS update toasts the soundmax, at least I can re-load. I keep the SoundMax control panel running all the time too. This has seemed to keep the thing from being blasted by MS Windows Updates, but maybe that is just a coincidence. Try here http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/3312/ matty88

You need to install the Windows operating system first.
Then you need to check what drivers that are missing or not working.
Then you need to download the drivers for your model laptop. You will need to get onto the Internet from a working computer to do this.
You can go to the Compaq/HP WEB site to download the latest drivers for your model laptop that suit your particular Windows operating system (ie, Windows XP, vista etc.). Go to www.compaq.com
Hi... it will be to ur advantage if you post the pc model no because there are a lot of compaq presarios out there.Well you already know the HP support site for download of drivers but you might be unable to detect which are the appropriate ones for you.
If this is the case, Plz log on to www.driverguide.com or www.officiladrivers.com where your system will be scanned for appropriate drivers and will be installed automatically for free. Post any further doubts.
