Dell Inspiron 1501 Balck LCD Screen

I have a Dell 1501 that the LCD screen has gone black. I figure it’s the LCD screen backlight but when I try and connect it to an external monitor I still am unable to get it to display. The issue here is, because I need to change the display to the external monitor, but can’t because I can’t get he LCD to power up, am kinda stuck guessing if it’s the LCD or not? Any help would be great.

I've got a Dell Inspiron One 2305...the problem with it is that when push the start button I can actually hear the computer starting up BUT the display is BLACK....no logo,no sound,no nothing. It&

You can try connecting an external monitor to see if you get a display on the external monitor. If so then you have a problem with Inspiron LCD screen or video circuit on the motherboard. Here is a link to the setup guide which has the location of external VGA connector on the back view:

Cracked screen

1) http://picclick.com/Dell-Inspiron-One-19-LCD-330706974224.html

2) http://www.txcesssurplus.com/servlet/the-11464/Dell-MWT0G-18.5%22-WXGA/Detail

NOT a Dell Inspiron One 19 Service Manual, but may help you in disassembling yours, to replace the LCD screen,

http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-one-2305

With this style, as most all-in-one desktops; you have to remove the Stand, Back Cover, etc, to get to the Display Bezel. Then screws are removed around the Display Bezel, and access to the LCD screen.

You NEED to wear an ESD wrist strap, and connect it to a good ground source. Average cost is $3 to $6.

My screen on my laptop just went all black with a very faint image. what is wrong there, how do i fix it, and what made this happen?

A) What is wrong?;
Your Backlight has gone bad, or the Inverter.

B) How do I fix it?
Replace the Backlight bulb, or the Inverter

C) Backlight bulb's, and Inverters, like everything have a 'lifespan'
This one is at the end of it's. (Stating the Backlight or the Inverter

From here all I can give you is Generic information, since I do not have the laptop manufacturer name, and Model Number. This is on the bottom of the laptop.

1) An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. A Backlight bulb, (Or more than one), is used to emit enough light.

2) A laptop cannot produce enough power to power the LCD screen, and is also used for power to the Backlight.

I'll have to discuss the way the Display Assembly is put together, and name parts in order to explain the following of how to repair. Again, generic information.

1a) The plastic top of the laptop is the Top Cover. There are different names used by different manufacturers.

1b) Looking at the LCD screen with the laptop open, there is a plastic frame that goes around the edges of the LCD screen, and is in Front.
This is the Display Bezel

1c) The LCD screen is behind the Display Bezel. The LCD screen is a composite of layers. The outside layer that faces you is a protective screen.
Around these layers composing the LCD screen, is a metal frame.
One side, (Or both sides) of the metal frame is removed to access the Backlight bulb.

1d) The Backlight bulb is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Very similar to the fluorescent lamps, (Bulbs) uses in residential, and commercial applications, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

Now to show you generic laptop info on replacing the Backlight bulb for them.

A) http://www.insidemylaptop.com/category/backlight/

B) http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/09/replace-laptop-backlight-ccfl-lamp/

If I had the laptop manufacturer name, and Model Number, I could try to give you a link to the Service Manual for the laptop. (Free. Usually from the laptop manufacturer)
This way you would have Exact info on how to disassemble your laptop's Display Assembly.

Dell 1501 screen goes black for 1 sec before back to normal

Try reseating the ram or try using the ram stick in an available slot . If that does not seem to work. Check if there is any throttling issues. Try running the computer only on the power and remove the battery .

Dell inspiron 1501 laptop screen has vertical lines in middle of screen, have taken apart to check connections but still there, any ideas ?

If the display is ok on an external monitor, then the problem is probably a bad tab board (tab welds) and the lcd will have to be replaced. If the external display is the same as the lcd then the inverter board or video card is bad.
