Question about Anonymizer Anonymous Surfing for PC

1 Answer

Anonymous Rating Hi Lauren, Wanted to add this to your 'Is it MB?' list. When someone other than the Asker rates a response, the only indication we (you too!!) have is that our rating percentage changes. I have no idea which response was rated, who rated it or even when it was rated. I try to make a point of thanking Askers for good ratings. I also follow up on the less than excellent ones, attempting to improve any shortfalls. In the last week or so I've been rated over a dozen times, on something. No idea what. I would really like to know who rated what. Even just an E-Mail notification when a response is rated would be very enlightening (might also suppress anonymous feelings of vindictiveness in others). It's been brought up in the Lounge before, not sure if you heard about it though. All the little cogs and wheelies must be pretty much already written (or they were, not too many notifications lately). Just a thought since my rating has been roller coastering over the past few days. Wanted to know why before it threw up. Mike258

    My original motto was:
"You never know your limits without going beyond them"

The current one is more in touch with the masses.

I was pretty sure you had this one in your magic list. I figured the E-mail solution would satisfy all concerned parties and be classified as a 'Quick Kill' by your developers. And of course you get to check one of those To-Do's off the list. Everybody's happy.

    Thanks for the response

I've actually already suggested to my bosses that we give you guys more information about your solutions such as which ones were rated and which ones have been credited. They are currently trying to work that and the other approved suggestions into the road map. I can't promise that it'll be instituted successfully, but I'm reasonably confident that it will. Sending email notifications when a response has been rated hasn't yet been brought up, to my recollection. It is a very good idea and would probably be easier to implement sooner. My boss is out of the office today but I'll suggest it to our R&D Director and ISITMB.

By the way, I just read your motto. Funny!

I don't know how to download the software for the NexxTech SD/SDHC/MMC Mini USB Card Reader. Can you help me?

Card Readers are standard, universal interfaces for storage devices the drivers for which are already built into every modern Operating System.

These kind of devices usually only require drivers for very old operating systems like Win 95/Win 98.

If the device has a fault, you need to say more about the fault by adding a Comment to this question, for someone to help you fix the fault, rather than waste your time looking for drivers.

I hope this helps.

If this Answer goes some way towards helping to resolve your Query, Problem or Fault, please take the time to Rate it. This helps Answerers, like me, better understand the needs and the point of view of the Asker and guides us in exploring the best ways to provide useful, high quality Responses.

If you need further help, please do not hesitate to post another Question or add a Comment to this Question.

Thanks for using FixYa.

How are answered ranked? I see that some answers get more thumbs up than others but are still buried deep down. How does fixya sort the answers order?

Hi fixyamaster,The solutions that receive the most Thumbs Up are usually at the top. However, since the asker's vote is weighted proportionally higher in the displayed rating, a question that has actually received many Thumbs Ups from other users will have a lower displayed rating if the asker gave it a low vote. I cant find it in the Payment FAQ, But what is Market Place Revenue Share? Its new and showing up on my account, I havent written any tips of how to's so thats not it.

Hi DSandles,

The Marketplace Questions are those questions with a green dollar amount tab on the "Answer it" button. They indicate questions where the asker has indicated their willingness to pay for a successful solution, but has not yet submitted a payment.

If you post a solution to one of these questions, the asker will need to pay to see it immediately. If they do not pay, your solution will be posted as a free solution in seven days. You will then receive credit for the free solution. You will also be eligible to earn Revenue Share based on how many people consult that solution.

This is something we are testing out, and may not be a permanent feature.

Hi, How do you add items to "my product list" on

Hi mampidog,

If you ask a question about a product, it will automatically be added to your "My Products". You can manage your alerts regarding these products here- (My Products Alerts section). I do not believe there is any other way to add or remove products at this time.

I can't figure out how to add a new model to the product database in fixya so I can add an instruction manual for a model that has just been released?

Hi VacuumRepair,

At this time you cannot enter new products yourself. However, if you will send me a list of the products you would like added to the site, I will pass them along to the staff.

Fixya rating math

Your question has been echoed by nearly every expert that has been rated more than three times. Split those numbers into two categories:
  1. Rating Percentages
  2. Rating Totals
The totals not adding up is easy to answer. The term coined by many in the lounge is 'Drive-By' ratings. You may know it by now, but here is how the ratings work.
  • A problem is posted
  • You post a solution
  • Someone else posts a solution
  • When the problem is redisplayed both solutions show. The Asker has not yet rated either.
  • The other solution has the four rating choices (FY, H, TFT, IA). If you felt like it, you have the ability to rate that solution, as does anyone else who happens to 'drive-by'.
  • Yours does not. Self rating is frowned upon. However, everyone else can rate it.
  • Say someone does just that and rates a FixYa. The FixYa shows on top of the solution. Everyone but the person that rated you can still rate you.
  • The Asker then Rates your solution a Fixya.
  • The solution will still show a FixYa up top.
  • At the bottom, Rating Locked! Asker has rated this solution as FixYa. No more ratings can be made.
  • There are still two votes there for one solution. There can be more.
  1. A solution is unlocked as long as the Asker has not rated it.
  2. An unlocked solution is ratable by anyone but the providing expert.
  3. Once an Asker rates a solution, it is locked. Only the Asker can change the rating at that point. All others are locked out
  4. A solution can be rated many times while unlocked.
  5. You can only rate a solution once.
  6. There is no easy, after the fact way to tell how many times a particular solution has been rated. You can't just eyeball it and be able to tell.
That's why (total votes + total unrated solutions <> total solutions)

The percentages are a whole different story. There has been speculation by the truckload on the math that makes up the rating percentages. The proofs don't proof.

I was a math major, consistently scoring in the 99th percentile in everything from Algebra to Advanced Trigonometry. I've got 25 years of data processing experience, I program in 13 languages, I'm a system developer, programming engineer and dozens of other titles. In short, I've got applicable skills in the area.

That said, I still haven't reverse engineered the algorithyms that come up with those percentages. So don't beat yourself up. If you want the algorythm that it is supposed to be based on, let me know. It is close, but there is still some unknown variable being factored into the mix.

Hopefully this clarified a portion of your curiousity

Two sidebars:
One involves a Generac 6.6kv generator that I'll put into an AskMe

The other is only a suggestion is from one Expert to another. There is goodwill to be garnered by exercising a measure of professional courtesy when rating fellow experts.

We each know the difficulty in maintaining percentages. The fact that many Askers do not understand the ratings system (how could they?) when they cast their votes.

Knowing this, I would rather not rate someone, than rate them down. This is only an opinion and is meant to be a constructive positive critique. I hope you interpret it that way.

With your background, I anticipate asking you many questions in the near future. I look forward to starting these interactions in the same way this one ends, on a positive note.

Once again, I hope this at least explains the total side of the ratings.
