Question about Corel Business & Productivity Software

1 Answer

Saved work vanished.

Auto save feature switched on, plus I saved manually. I have the original work, but the upgraded version is gone. I printed the completed work successfully before shutting down the computer, but I return to it today and the hours of upgraded work is gone. I don't understand. Very new to this.

I think there has been a misunderstanding in my use of the word "upgraded". I haven't "upgraded" the program, just the piece of work I was working on - ie - made improvements and changes to the piece. It was the improvements and changes that were gone (despite saving) when I opened up the file the next day. All I was left with was the original piece of work, minus the changes.

Sorry if I didn't make my meaning more clear.

If this is a new up-grade of the program that an old file is being worked on with the upgraded program, look under TOOLS, OPTIONS, FILE LOCATIONS for a defaulted location that can be different from what you expected.

    Dear zulu42
The answer may be in the same location. In the tab file locations is a selection "AutoRecover files" there may be a folder specified that the document is located. My set up is that the files would be located in thee normal location of the document so the up-date would be over_filed the oroginal document, but you could have a seperate folder that holds up-dates only if you forget to file-up over the original document. I wish I could be of more help but you can prevent future disappointments by setting up a folder to hold your auto matic Up-dates or set the frequency of the AutoRecovery to less time(Tools, Options, Save).
    Glad to be of Assistance
Please rate the assistance even if not adaquate for your needs, I can learn from all comments.

I can't find my auto saved document

Step 1:
What sort of document IE: word , excell , office ......

Microsoft Word's AutoRecover feature periodically saves your document while you're working in it, even if you forget to save it manually. If you close the document accidentally, Word closes improperly or you unthinkingly write over a document or change something important, this function can save you from losing all your work. Although Word doesn't AutoSave constantly, it might have automatically saved your lost document more recently than you manually saved it. Word 2010 makes this rescue process even easier than earlier versions of Word; it stores all recently AutoSaved versions of your documents under the "File" tab.

Open the document for which you lost information. For example, perhaps you were working in a document that you had previously saved, but then Word closed and you lost your most recent work. Click the "File" tab. Click on the most recently AutoSaved version of the document under the Versions heading, next to the "Manage Versions" icon. An Untitled, Unsaved Document b> Open Microsoft Word. Even if you never saved the document, and you can't find the file on your computer because you never gave it a name, Word might have saved a version of it. Click the "File" tab. Click "Recent" on the left column of the File screen. Click the "Manage Versions" icon at the bottom of the middle column. On the drop-down menu, click "Recover Unsaved Documents." Word presents an Open dialog box, taking you directly to the Unsaved Files folder that Word automatically created. Click on the document that you want to open, then click "Open" at the bottom of the dialog box. Click the "Save As" button on the yellow bar that appears above the document, below the Ribbon; in the pop-up menu, give your document a name, choose its storage location on your computer and click "Save."

Date in Word Docs

It is one way or the other. Either, you hard code the date, and it never updates, or use the auto-update.

For your purposes, since the date needs to be hard coded, for compliance, it looks like you'll need to edit the date manually.

I wrote the long message and wanted to send it later. Later I could not find my written mesage to send email. I did not find outbox nor Draft symbol in the screen. How should I get my written message back

It should have been auto saved in the drafts folder. If it is not in the drafts folder, It is most likely gone. Outlook uses word as an editor and word will auto save every so often. It will place an .asd file in your temp folder. Your temp folder location will depend on your Windows version. I'm not talking about windows/temp. It is most likely under Documents and Settings\(your user name)\Local Settings\temp. The Local Settings folder is hidden so you must set your settings so that you can view hidden files and folders.

I suggest either making sure you save your message to draft every so often as you write it .. OR a better solution is to use Word. Word will auto save every so often and the document can be recovered.

How auto save works

How to view your Local Settings files/folders

hopefully you can find the saved file there.

Saving projects

I have not used Print Shop in years but i always was able to save to a file then save it to a disc using cd writing software. Just take notice of where your files are being saved. I think you can use the save as function and choose a spot to save it for easy retrivial then close the print shop and open up cd writing software and save the project to a disc.

MS Excel 2007 won't save my worksheet

Hi,

I find this a little perplexing too. Without sounding patronising are you sure you are saving it to the same location that you are attempting to open it from?

Something to try.. Excel keeps a record of the last 4 things you were working on in the file menu. Try clicking 'File' then the 2 little down arrows (if they are there) and it should bring up a list of previous documents. Try the last one or 2 and see if either of these are a more up to date version than the one you last worked on. If so in future always choose 'File' - 'Save as' when saving a document and make sure you choose a document path you are sure of.

Really hope this helps.

Regards,

Andy
