To change the password, do this:
1. go to into "setup" from the boot up entry (turn on comp, then press F2 or F12, depending on your OS; look for them in the bottom left corner; if you don't press it before the OS loads, you'll need to restart and do it again)
2. Once in setup, you'll see a menu bar - for each item on the bar (i.e., File, Edit etc) select F9 and select yes when prompted to save changes. Do this for each. Then go to the Menu Bar Option that will allow you to change the password. It will ask you for the old password - do not enter anything - simply hit enter - then hit enter for the new password entry, as well as the "confirm" password entry (if applicable, should be).
Then, go to exit, and "exit saving changes". The OS will automatically reload. If and when you are prompted to enter a password for the OS, hit enter. You should be brought to the OS (windows) desktop.
If this does not work, please let me know.

I forgot my password to my hp g-60 notebook and need to do a factory rest

The BIOS password is set, ,
each generation of PC resets using a more difficult way.
easy to hard today.
why now as HP this, they built it. (not fixya) G60 means nothing.
see why>? posting the full service tag would be very helpful.

my guess is you are saying the F10 bios key is dead.
you power one and f10 is dead or will not let you into BIOS pages
nor do the BIOS inside pages set all BIOS defaults command.
is the RTC COIN cell dead. 7 years old today, is it?

one way to reset old PCs is to.
  • pull all main batteries huge out.
  • pull line cord, power pack from PC.
  • pull RTC coin cell.
  • push power button for 15 seconds. let caps discharge.
  • let sit for 1/2 hour deal like this.
reverse above. (warning only works on old PCs)
Old means 2010 or 2008 or older, (yours is on the cusp)
If your PC has UEFI TPM technology this does not work.
you need help from HP, to reset it.
some have backdoor password, that HP has list , why not ask them and not fixya.? they have the huge vast list there.
watch others doing the same thing , at HP.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/enter-power-password/m-p/4418016/highlight/true#M927719

see the backdoor PW there? if you do the same thing
there you get yours. (for your g60-nnnnxx)

Unlock bios password on msi u100

If the boot sequence is wrong, then how can you even try and log into XP, what you're saying makes no sense.

You said, (every time I attempt to log in It prompts me to activate xp)

So it's booting to the hard drive, why would you need to change it ??????????????????

Removing the CMOS battery might and I mean might reset BIOS password, but that has nothing to do with XP and activation.

You can't upgrade until you get XP activated.

So you might as well install XP pro.

Do a search on google for a XP crack if you can afford to buy it.

I won't post how to crack it.

I FOR GOT MY HDD PASSWORD HOW DO I RESET IT

This is your only shot other than paying and providing all your details.. good luck
The BIOS password is removed by the BIOS configuration, you need the BIOS password to get into the BIOS configuration. But if you do not have the BIOS password then you need to construct this dongle device.
TOSHIBA BIOS PASSWORD DONGLE
You can build a dongle that plugs into the printer port.Purchase a 25 pin male D sub connector and solder insulated wires to the various pins as listed below. The pins are numbered on the connector
http://www.tilman.de/sonstiges/toshiba/dongle1.jpg this is a picture of the finished dongle

Wire the pins as follows :-1-5-10, 2-11, 3-17, 4-12, 6-16, 7-13, 8-14, 9-15
Plug the finished dongle in the printer port and power up the laptop. The password will be reset, go into the BIOS configuration to check the BIOS password, you may have to disable the BIOS password.

On my gateway laptop, I have an all black screen with a blue 4 inch box that prompts me for my HDD password. I don't have that password at all.

Hard drive passwords cannot be broken or gotten past. There are no special tricks unfortunately....most people that have an unknown hard drive password are forced to get a new drive and start over. If you know what the old BIOS password was, sometimes when people make a bios password they make the hard drive password the same. BIOS passwords and user account passwords can be reset......hard drives cannot. If you need the files from the hard drive....you might be able to access the files by removing the drive and using an IDE / SATA to USB adapter and connecting to a different computer.

I have an old Acer ferrari 3000 series laptop. My 3 yr old nephew was playing with it now everytime i start up it ask for a hard drive password. Dont have a clue what it could be. Also when i press F2 to...

if u don't know the password for the hard drive, u won;t be able to use it !!! U can try to mount that drive to another laptop/computer and than force it to lose the password encryption (u'll need special software and advanced knoledge...). The other option is to send it to the producer (acer) and let them do the job.(expensive !!!)
As for the password that is requested when u press F2, is the BIOS password, and u can get ride of it easily by reseting the BIOS.(u should find info for this in the computers manual)(note: this involves opening the computer case ...)

And ofecourse there is the option where u can try all posible combinations for the password .. it shold take just 2000 years ... lol
