Press print or copy and get "set paper again" "set toner again". Can find nothing in the manual about this error. Unplugged and replugged. Removed and replaced toner. Removed and replaced paper. Nothing changes.

Same deal. SET PAPER AGAIN, SET TONER AGAIN error. People at Canon said it must be a hardware problem because they've never heard of this happening before.

  • susan234 Dec 09, 2008

I have the exact same problem. It reads "set in toner toner is not set" I have set and reset the cartridge and even bought a new one and nothing has changed. I have plugged and unplugged but to no avail. There is nothing in the manual and this machine is not a year old....help....

I had this problems and did everything suggested on here. Installed firmware update (which just changed the error message - didn't get rid of it), removed paper, changed size, replaced paper, tried new cartridge. Nothing worked. Finally found a tiny piece of paper that must have been blocking the sensor. It was on the left side near where the power cable is. It was less than an inch square. Got it out with some tweezers and problem solved.

Thanks, PixelKix. I had the same problem, and after reading your solution, I went back and checked. Sure enough, I found a small piece of paper at the left side after removing the toner. After removing the paper, the problem was fixed.

Thanks to all, especially crfred, for the help. I just had this problem today and it was driving me crazy. After reading these posts, I removed the cartridge and sure enough, I also found a piece of paper in the left corner. The staff member who removed the paper jam never mentioned it to me that it was ripped out, had I have known that I would have looked more closley. Any ways, problem solved and thanks again.. the internet is a truly amazing resource indeed.

Ditto-also found a tiny piece wrapped around the end of the toner cartridge, wiped off the silver contact points on toner cartridge, used a vacuum cleaner because I couldn't get to one of the very small pieces-after using magnifying glass...could see it when it was reflected on the metal bar. Took forever....but it finally works...thanks for the advise.

I had the same problem and found the solution on Alex Luigi's blog. The sensors are fooled into thinking that the toner cartridge is not present. The solution is to take all the paper out and reload the paper. I did this and found a single sheet of paper caught up in the paper feed path. I removed that page then turned the printer off and back on. The problem was fixed!

here is the solution for this problem
this is caused by a paper covering the tonner sensor
open the cover ,lift the tonner ,see down on the left side..there wiill be a bit of paper sticking out...remove it.. thats it
this has been a prob in my printer for the past one year..only this solved this error

"REMOVE IT" -- ???? MORE EASILY SAID THAN DONE. THE PAPER WON'T BUDGE. I TRY WITH A TWEEZERS. IT DOESN'T HELP. IS THERE A WAY TO OPEN UP THE MACHINE SO THAT THE PAPER CAN BE MOVED MORE EASILY? THEN I COULD "REMOVE IT"!!!!!!!

Like most others here, found two very small pieces of paper behind the toner cartridge. The larger one was blocking the sensor allowing for the set paper again/toner again error message. The second smaller one I suspect was the cause of the paper not feeding straight all the way through and causing docs to be printed crooked on the paper as well as lots of paper jams. That had been going on for months. Thanks for helping me find the solution to two frustrating problems!

Hi - I realize these posts are old, but I had to add another tip:All I did was to open the top manual feed thing, and on the left side was a protruding, small white plastic tab. I pushed on it, and now the printer works. Still getting toner message, but paper message has gone bye-bye.

I had to post seeing i spent hours on this fax machine... after installing the new firmware, removing the paper etc i still had the same error message. I smacked the thing a few times... shook it... flipped it in all different ways in the hope the piece of paper would move out of the sensor... no such luck, finally i was just about to order a new machine i asked one of my staff to see if she could find teh stuck piece of paper, she looked and found it straight away... moral of teh story - get other ppl to find the paper because its most likely infront of you (if u remove teh toner, it should be on the left side).

I can't find any paper (even the smallest bit) stuck inside anywhere yet the paper jam message will not go away therefore not letting me use the machine at all.

Replace the toner with one bought either from a Brother Stockist or a remanufacturer of toner cartridges.

Error light flashing. Scren prompts set paper again, set toner again. Have installed new cartridge?

Hmm that is very bad indeed. Have you tried simply unplugging the printer from the power source for at least 10 minutes, then replugging it in to see if the errors persist? These errors just came out of the blue one day, nothing changed or happened to the machine? No power surges / outages or anything like that?

Thanks

Copier is Canon PC 720 Copier turns on, but makes

You said you unplugged your copier, did you unplug it for 10 to 15 minutes before plugging it back in, plug it into a differed
outlet that you know works and plug it directly into a wall outlet instead of a power strip. Check to see if your copier reaches stand-by mode then make a test sheet.

If this does not work then you have probably have an internal processing component which requires attention.

Online error light nothing prints

I have a ML 1710 .Not my area of expertise but I took out the paper and could not see a jam. Took toner out , a little cleaning, plugged and unplugged from computer several times. I found paper jammed in the very back ,folded so tight nothing was showing. Mine has a back door and the paper is having trouble rounding the last bend and coming out. So I leave the back door open to get my copies. Green light on.

let the machine run they will cycle a long period of time trying to add toner, if you let it run you'll probably get the toner lite to come on.

DCP-130c error 44 Please Help

error 44 dcp 130/mfc 240/440 etc.:

abnormally high temperature within print head.

You have two choices to TRY to fix it:
1. put in new carts. press menu then start copy b/w then  fourtimes arrow up button (AUB) quickly one after another.

press by help of AUB and OK:
7 - (Ok) 6  - (ok) 4 (ok) then start b/w copy to initiate the carts and let the machine do some power cleaning.

leave the maintenance mode by pressing AUB 9 (ok)  and 9 again.

2. Make sure that the ph is at correct position simply by pressing on it from top (power up machine. wait til ph runs to left side. unplug from power. simpl press onto the ph). replug to power.

If you still receive the error the ph is defective due to bad generic ink and needs replacing.

Paper comes out with nothing on it

Possibly sounding silly here, (again) but have you removed the seal from the toner cartridge (This is a breakaway plastic tab, connected to a length on plastic, which seals the toner for transit)

If this has not been removed from the cartridge then it fails in just the way you are describing
