Question about Casio FX-7400G Plus Calculator

I have already looked this up, someone said to set up a matrix like this- [[-2,3][1,0]] and then put an arrow after that and go to options, calc, and choose mat, for matrix. I tried that and it says simp, not mat.... and it didn't work. Is there a way to input matrix?

Hello,

The error may be due to the key you used to signifie
inverse. It says in the manual that you should use the key x^-1 not the
one used to input general powers.

Here is screen capture from the
Appendix to the manual. The picture shows the sequence of keys to press
to obtain the inverse of a 2x2 matrix. It is taken from page 41 of
Appendix

The matrix used in the exemple is

a_11=2 a_12=1 a_21=1 a_22=2

If you have mastered matrix manipulations on the TI calculators, it should be a breeze to learn the same on the Casios.**A. Define the matrix (Create it)**

- Turn calculator ON.
- Press Menu,select the MAT icon and press [EXE]
- You see a list of possible matrix labels (A, B, C,D,E,F)
- All that have not been created have a "none" to their right
- Highlight a matrix name and press the right arrow. Where there was "none" , you have a template 0x0.
- That is where you specify the dimensions (mxn). exemple. 2x2
- Enter the first dimension and press [EXE]
- Enter the 2nd dimension and press [EXE]
- A matrix template opens where you enter the coefficients left to right and up down.
- After each coefficient press [EXE]. Cursor moves to the next coefficient, etc.

Press [SHIFT][QUIT] to return to the list of matrices to create new ones

Once you have one matrix, you can do operations on it: Calculate the determinant (if matrix is square), calculate its inverse, transpose, augment it, fill it, etc..

- These operations are accessed as follows.
- Quit the matrix editor by pressing [Menu] and selecting the [Run] application.
- Press [OPTN][F2:MAT]
- You have the menus Mat,M(atrix)->L(ist), Det(erminant), Trn (transpose), Aug(ment) ->, Iden(tity),Dim(ension) Fill

- You press the [OPTN][F2:MAT] key sequence (just above)
- Press [F3:Det]; the command
**det**is displayed on screen. - Press [F1:Mat] the identifier
**Mat**is displayed. - Press [ALPHA] A; screen display
**det Mat A**. - Press [EXE] to get the value of the determinant.

[OPTN][F2:MAT] (MAT) [Alpha] A ^2 [EXE]

Product of two compatible matrices MatAXMatB

First let us repair the terminology.

- You can evaluate any expression (find the value of any expression for a particular value of its variable).Store a value in the variable, say X. Key in the expression and press [EXE].
- You can consider your expression(should not contain a relational operator such as =, greater than, less than, greater than or equal to, less than or equal to) to be a function Y1(x) = expression and graph it, or generate a table for it. You will have several values of the function calculated at various points.
- You can set your expression equal to 0 and find the particular value(s) of the variable (the unknown) that make the equality TRUE. That is called solving an equation.

The Casio FX-570MS does not handle matrices. So you cannot create matrices, let alone invert them. Sorry.

The Casio FX115 ES handles matrices for up to 3X3 dimension. Create the matrix.Have its name displayed on the command line and press the [x^-1] (reciprocal ) key.

Here is a short summary

The multiplication of structured mathematical entities (vectors, complex numbers, matrices, etc.) is different from the multiplication of unstructured (scalar) mathematical entities (regular umbers). As you well know matrix multiplication is not commutative> This has to do with the dimensions.

An**mXn **matrix has** m rows **and**
n columns**. To perform multiplication of an **kXl** matrice by
an **mXn** matrix you multiply each element in one row of the first
matrix by a specific element in a column of the second matrix. This
imposes a condition, namely that the number of columns of the first
matrix be equal to the number of rows of the second.

Thus, to be able to multiply a kXl matrix by am mXn matrix, the number of columns of the first (l) must be equal to the number of rows of the second (m).

So**
MatA(kXl) * MatB(mXn) is possible only if l=m**

MatA(kX3) * Mat(3Xn) is possible and meaningful, but

Mat(kX3) * Mat(nX3) may not be possible.

To get back to your calculation, make sure that the number of columns of the first matrix is equal to the number of rows of the second.** If this condition is not satisfied, the calculator
returns a dimension error**. The order of the matrices in the
multiplication is, shall we say, vital.
