The information he gave you was correct for a new DI-514 but if this has already been used it could be that the password was set. To take care of this problem, you can return the router to factory default settings by inserting a paper clip into the reset hole at the back (leave the router plugged in and turned on), hold it for ten seconds and then release. The router should reboot. Try the 192 and admin again.

You should connect to router configuration page using your web browser. Normlly the adress you should type is 192.168.0.1. If is the first time you install it or it has factory defaults you will be asked a username and a password. Type admin as username and leave the password field blank.
Now you are in router configuration page. From here you can choose a password to protect your wireless lan and a password to protect router access.

How do i get my internet conection "security-enabled"

First, to practice what you need to do, go to this site
That's the emulator provided by DLink for your router.

Alright, next step is to connect your PC to the router with an ethernet cable- by changing your router settings, you will lose wi-fi connection until you change the setup in your pc.

Now then, in a browser type in the address bar 192.168.0.1- you should get a box that asks for a username and password- default is "Admin" and nothing in the password box.

Click the wireless button on the left side-
Change WEP to "enabled", put in your phonenumber for the first key, then hit apply

You will need to rescan the network- Windows will prompt you for the password- enter it, should connect- and you're done

How do I put a password on my existing router

Open your web browser and type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar to access the router's software. It will ask for a username and password. The factory sets are username: admin and leave the passowrd blank. From there you should be able to change your settings

Type "user" for the username instead of "admin" & leave the password blank. This should work.

When you go to your routner and put in username and password, the boxes that are a "lot of stuff" has a tab on the top HOME being one of them, and a tab down the side WIRELESS being one of them. When you click on WIRELESS, you should see a screen that has a box marked Enabled or Disabled. Check ENABLED. Give your SSID a descriptive name like Eagleye and (optionally) turn on WEP. I tend to give all of mine 1011121314 as the 64 bit encryption so I never forget it.

Save your settings and your SSID name should show up on wireless devices. If it doesn't, then click on ADVANCED and PERFORMANCE tabs and make sure the SSID is enabled. Keep in mind that you can also DISABLE SSID and set up all your wireless devices by keying the SSID the same as the one you gave it. Then you don't have to use WEP and it will improve your wirless performance.

Here's a link to the 514 manual if you need to ask other questions. This is for a rev C, but you can step back into the website for an A or B model. Most notably, check out the WEP and SSID FAQ tabs.

Lost my username and password

Reset the Router, and you will have to set everything up again. To avoid losing this in the Future, Put a Piece of masking tape under the router and Write your Information there. Not a Security threat as anyone that wants on your Network would need to be in your Home to get this information
