Question about Panasonic SC-HT740 System

SA-HT670 please wait problem

Seems I did the same damage by accidentally bumping one of the trays while open and it being forced back. I tried to re-align the trays but I don't know what is 'right'. Spabella mentioned removing the side of the tray to align the trays. Can someone expand on this?

I've got the same problem. The Changer block or traverse mechanism is a big cog work. One thing changed and its toast (I THINK) The white nylon gears are set and they are dependent on some cue to be moved. The left side of the block can pop off after the white top is removed, The side goes in and out to change ... plastic tabs. I'm pulling my hair out.

I've autopsied one after I bought another. The new one did the same as the old one right off telling me it looks like the issue is in the control, possibly the disk reader mechanism, or a glitch in the communication with the main board its tethered to with the ribon cables.

I'm searching for a reset hack/trick/ whatever, to reset it to factory. The problem is a glitch in the software, I Think.

Anyone have a clue on this?

I read there is a small wheel on top of the white plastic disc cover(take the units top off to see what i'm talking about), which there is, and it is used to align. It is done by inserting it at the bottum of the unit located front left side(just turn the unit upside down, no need to remove anything), however u need an extension to get the wheel up in the unit. I dont know what to use, especially to keep some type of extension from twisting inside the wheel while it tries to turn the wheel mechinism

We've all done it, or one of our youngsters do it for us... knock the multi disc tray out of sync with the drive gears.

With multi disc trays, the CD drive has to move out of the way during disc change and tray loading. Occasionally a disc jams, someone forces the tray movement, and you hear the GRIND, GRIND, GRIND of slipping gears.

Most designs have a switch-hit gear setup that's self correcting for small adjustments but occasionally the mechanism slips beyond self correcting.

Here's the process to open up and fix the tray alignment for Harman's FL8385 CD Changer.

My system says INIT please wait and the cd/ dvd trays are out of line i tinkle a little with electronics and feel that if i knew a little more about this problem I can fix it myself, especially due to high...

  • First you to pull out the DVD tray assembly and check to make sure there is not anything that has broke inside there. Make sure nothing is blocking the trays from moving.
  • Now pull the side cover off. There is a spare gear on the top of the DVD tray assembly. You will take that and place it in the two holes at the bottom of the player. This will allow you to manually adjust the trays. If you don't have this gear you can align the tray manually but it has to be real perfect.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Maybe if you ask it to OPEN the tray as soon as you turn it on and leave it that way it might move on to other functions. A hands-on tech would have to lay hands and eyes on it otherwise.

I nudged the loading tray with my foot when changing a disc. As a result the tray is not opening or closing, presumably because it is no longer aligned properly. Is this likely to be something I might fix...

Mechanical timing and alignment is the problem of your dvd player.
This comes when you accidentally force the disc tray to close.
You need to open the cover of the dvd player..take out the dvd mechanical loading system try to eject it manually by turning the gear with your hand.
Make sure that the cd loader reaches the limit switch before it closes. This will return back the right timing and alignment.

I am having problems with my SA-HT670 it is reading error code INIT and then WAIT. The 5 disc changer will no open and close properly

The CD loading mechanism is not resetting properly. When powered on, the entire mechanism goes through a startup alignment sequence. This is to be sure that the unit is in a known position and state. The init indication is for the "electonics" reset portion, the wait message should be present while you hear the mechanism move. The most common cause of this is a slipping belt or a jammed CD. Be cautious about trying to repair this yourself. It is easy to damage the gearing inside or to get it out of aligment. There is a good possibility that this can be repaired with either no parts or with a $3-$5 belt.

Cd tray stays open

There could be damage to the tray contact switches
(these tell to the control unit the position of the tray - open/closed), so that the control unit can start/stop and reverse the direction of the tray ejector motor.

These contacts are located somewhere underneath the tray (usually near the front unit cover), and since you mentioned that the tray was bumped while it was open, it is possible they were damaged. Also, the behaviour of the tray suggests that the control unit can no longer tell whether the tray is open or closed so it operates the tray motor in a wrong manner, which, again, points to these same contacts as the possible cause.

Repairing the contacts may be a somewhat delicate procedure, first you need to locate them (it may require partial disassemby of the tray mechanism), if they are bent a pair of tweezers might do the job, if there's hard damage, it's probably better to replace them (scrapped CD ROM units or a dead CD unit might be a good source, they just need to be of the same dimensions).

There may also be other causes for this malfunction, i just mentioned the first thing that i would check.

Hope this helps somehow.
